New Guy here!!!

Just became the proud owner of a MAS 45 .22 LR Rifle.

Someone had removed the rear leaf and added a scope mount.
I purchased a Center-Point scope for it and mounted it.
Took it to the range here in Up State SC the other week. They only had a 100 yard range and there I am with no Spotting scope, only binocs. So, I bore site the thing and load up the three mags I have.
Take my 15 shots at dif. Reticule settings and walk the 100 yards to see what I did.
Not Bad....
Fifth Reticule, two hits on Top of paper. Right min 2".
Fourth Reticule, 5 on paper, in 10" Circle, right on all by min 2"
Third Reticule, 5 on paper, all high by 2" an to the right by min of 2"

NO Wind.
What a FINE shooting rifle. It's in really good shape. Stock has a few indentation marks from where someone put the stock in a clamp of some kind. Standard import mark, and the Serial # F 215**

I would like to get an original Sling for it if they are available.

Comments Welcome!

Was that a no-gunsmithing mount?

Passed on one of those for $495, starting to wonder if I should kick myself

The narrow slings for these can be difficult to find, you're not the only MAS 45 owner beating the bushes for one. However, you're already found the most important part; the rifle! Damned fine shooters, easily one of the better .22 trainers ever built and a bit under-appreciated by the collecting community (but shooters love 'em). IMHO they do need a better sight/scope to wring out the true accuracy that they're capable of, but the original iron sight works just fine at 50 meters. Enjoy!

have had 4 of these kept the best two.

with right ammo will shoot with other target guns of more value.
may be not the 52 Win's. but has beaten a few 64 anschutz sporters, Kimbers sporters, Remington's, others.
loves Russian target ammo, steel or brass cases.
( i paid average $250 in new condition more than 18 years ago for all of them. :)
my friends had a couple too.
one i sold had Mauser, and mas on receiver.:D
excellent quality very accurate, and ive seen sporter made from these guns that would knock your eyes out.:)
not one thing i could say bad about them.. <:D>< dk

Thanks everyone for the answers.

To answer the question on the mount, the rifle came with it when I purchased. By what can tell the mounting holes were already in the rifle. There are no markings on the scope mount at all so I can't tell if it was a commercial product or made to fit.

Sorry for all the questions....just so many!!

As far as a sling goes, any recommendations on a make that is available that may be close?

Do most shoot sub-sonic ammo for 100 to 150 yrds?

Major Do's and Don'ts, I should be aware of with the rifle?

By what I can tell from the site, it's pre WWII model.

marine dad, mounting hole aren't original? post war II.

unless with MAUSER BANNER- like one of mine sold had both banner and mas!
which i think were made from captured new parts after the war then assembled and re stamped over chamber.
i use for slings those Russian / chinese tan to greenish web cloth leather tipped type, looks good caries well. never seen original slings?.
ammo use standard velocity, sub sonic Remington for hunting 75 or less yards.:D
other high velocity some shot well, some didn't do as well  the value packs most brands like walmart (-).
but again the Russian was amazing.
wish i had some way to scope it but never figure a way without changing org.
these are the most over looked ,accurate military trainers today.<:)>< dk

You can usually find two slings listed on eBay.fr that are supposed to be "correct" for the MAS-45, and I have both of them, but neither one is exactly like the one shown in the French manual for the rifle. That shows a quick-release clip at the butt swivel and loop-with-button at the fore-end. It can be made from one of the two, I think. I'm not completely sure of that since I'm recovering from a stroke, and don't have the dexterity to try it at the moment.

There is a .pdf of the manual available online somewhere.

That's one of them, just remove one of the hooks and attach the sling directly to the forearm swivel. Foreign eBay sites are easy to use - same ID & if the vendor accepts PayPal you're good to go.

I think there's a link to the manual in one of the older posts here. Maybe it can be Googled, too.

I can't get a handle on the language on the French EBay.
Can some one tell me if this seller will ship to the US?
At less than $15.00, can't go wrong really. That is unless the Freight is $20.00 !!!

Is there an up charge? I would think that they would go Standard post..?

Just never dealt with Ebay outside of the US.

If they were available in Al Asad Iraq I could get my Son to get it for me!!!

5 Euro shipping to the US. My total from him was Euro 13 in January (8 = 5). I placed a bid at the starting price and was outbid, but after the auction closed he emailed me a "second chance offer" at my original bid. I figured he had more than one sling, which is why I only bid the minimum.

Check this site on the Mas 45, it's in French but the picture will help:
http://armesfrancaises.free.fr/CR Mauser mle 45 et CR MAS 45.html

The Mas 45 was a training rifle for green recruits, at the origin there was no dedicated carry sling for it, the SMG Mat 49 sling has the correct width (25mm) for the Mas 45 fittings and was used when a carry sling was required.

A quick release sling was used for competition shooting with both the Mas 45 and Mas 49-56 MSE, see picture below.

Ran about two hundred rounds through the rifle today.
100 yards.
Best group was 17 inside 7" circle, three bulls eyes out of 25 rounds.
Little wind to 5 MPH and variable.

Got to move the scope forward a bit. Not getting a good view with where I need to lay my cheek.

Got to start over on the zero set up.

Isn't that just AWFUL??
The good thing about it, spent maybe $13.00 for all the ammo!!!!!!!!!

MAs 45 Sling

What can I tell you about the MAS 45 sling? I have one that my late wife bought for me, removed it from the box from France. Each rifle came with two clips and the leather sling, rolled up and tied with a piece of string. The bit about the loop at one end and etc is correct, that is exactly how it looks. I understand that now the 'asking' price for the clips is some $65! Mine has been fired less than a dozen rounds - she wanted to shoot it, I fired it exactly once! It was my understanding these were made in France by MAS using Mauser machines, etc
And best regards,

Looks like memories like good times just seem to adhere to inanimate objects that somehow touch our lives.
trapperP, you mentioned your Wife, for me it's my Dad.
A simple thing, a Case pocket knife. It's in my pocket right now.
Sorry for your loss!
