My grandfather brought this bayonet back from England after WWII. He was a medical technician who enlisted in December 1941 and was based in the UK from sometime in ‘42-’43 to 1945. I don’t know how he got it. It’s been in our family since then. Sadly, it wasn’t cared for very well. I played with it as a kid. (I didn’t dent the scabbard.)

I am looking for help identifying it. From what I could find on the internet, the markings indicate it may have been made by Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen in 1935. Is this correct? Any other info you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks!

What you have is what collectors refer to as a German S84/98 Type III (otherwise referred to as a Kar98k bayonet, though it will fit most military M98 Mauser rifles with a 4cm length bayonet lug). This pattern was standardized by 1934 and produced until 1945... albeit only three manufactures are verified as having produced any during that year. Such bayonets made for the German military initially bore a special code assigned to each manufacturer. During the transition year of 1937, the "S-codes" were superseded by use of their company names instead. This again changed once more in late 1940 into 1941, when they were assigned "alpha codes" until the war ended. In the case of P Weyersberg, this would have been "crs".
