WTK: Converting 10 round Makarov mag to 12 rounds

A question for the board experts.

On the 10 round magazines for the Russian IJ 70, after reading the sticky, to convert it from 10 rounds to 12 rounds you can either remove the ring (cylinder) on the lower plastic plate that inserts into the spring or fabricate a new metal locking insert to replace the plastic one.

Does anyone sell a replacement metal locking plate?

If not, I most likely "cobble" a few up.

Thanks

I'm not aware of anyone selling any of the parts for the hi cap mag, OEM or after market.

The blocking ring can be cut off the original 10 round base lock plate and the mag will hold 12 rounds, but the 12th rnd. may be tight to load and there may not be enough slack in the ammo stack to load the mag against the slide if it is forward.

Here is what I do , From a pic that is now missing from the above sticky.

#4 is what an original 12 round base locking plate looks like.

#3 is a "cobble" of a Sig P226 base locking plate to replace a plastic one.
The width was OK, but some material needed to be removed from the ends.
I used the plastic plate as a pattern and reworked the donor plate to match. The Sig mag plate is one that I just happened to have laying around, but a good cobbler should be able to find other suitable donor material.

Sometime back I sold off nearly everything I had in the area of commerical Makarovs in order to concentrate on the military versions.
Also I only have a few of the photos that were in the original sticky post about the hi cap Mak mags.
I'll run through what I have left.

Note that all the Russian mags are 12 round, starting in 9/94 they blocked them to 10 rounds, there was two different methods used,
The mag in the pic on the left is blocked by the plastic base locking insert.
this is the design that can be easily converted back to 12 rounds by changing the base lock back to metal.
The one on right is blocked by a longer plastic piece in the middle between the 2 springs , this design can not be changed to 12 rounds with out replacement, good luck with that as there are no spare parts to be had. Note that the mag on the right uses the same base locking plate as a 12 round mag.

This is a 12 round mag.

This is a closer shot of the 2 different middle plastic parts used
