Do you have a place to post "turd" sellers?

 

Clarification.

Although members may not post on-going auction links they may post pics from on-going auctions in cases of questions about items being fraudulent or humped (ie. Turds). However, this option may not be used for purposes of shilling or promoting on-going auctions. Moderators will be looking for such abuse and dealing with it aggressively.

How do we identify it as an authentic turd of no historical merit? If so should it not be passed. I feel we stepped into this one!

Welcome to the forum. Turd Alerts have been going on for years before you posted, successfully. The rules are simple and ScottB re-emphasized them for you. If a firearm has renumbered parts to "match" and is misadvertised I fail to see how that has "historical merit" other than perhaps for book on fakes and frauds or a huckster museum. I don't know who is with you re the "we" that you and whomever are stepping in. However, please read the rules on this and watching how the forum operates and how this matter is handled and you'll have a better understanding of the concept of the Turd Alert and the value it provides to the collecting community.

Anyone calling out a Turd Alert had better be very confidant and able to support their allegations with evidence that the subject item is a turd. Otherwise they will step in something and be held accountable. This handling prevents the inexperienced and those lacking appropriate knowledge from calling out legitimate items as turds. This is how it has worked in the past and has proven quite successful. So no worries.

Since I consider your PM to me (cut and pasted below) with its threats of "Infraction" to be an attempt at behind the scenes censorship, I think it is only right that it be made public. (Have some light shone on it) You may wish to take this private in order to hide publicly from your attempts at censorship, or to further confuse the issue, but as I indicated before.... The fact remains....You demonstrated pathetic behavior in choosing to insult Ranger CPT and you were called on it.

In an effort to do what is right for the forum perhaps you can explain to the forum how your insult was a positive thing for this discussion if that is your contention. Or alternatively you could admit it was a poor course of action, and apologize and edit the wording out of your post.

Since your PM, now made public contains what I believe is a false narrative of events, besides threats, I feel it deserves a response.

I will start by saying that I have no personal animosity with you, your posts, nor do I generally "Seek You Out" as you are trying to insinuate. I do welcome your knowledgeable input when it is constructive, but I do not worship at your feet blindly. When you or others cross the line, I feel it is proper, (and good for the forum) to point out that in this case, not everyone here thinks that hurling sly insults, or belittling posters who happen to have conflicting or contrary opinions is a positive thing. I think it is especially important for a moderator to set a positive tone for a forum. With the power of your position, comes responsibility.

Now, if you would care to edit out all references to your insult, and the resulting verbage about it, from this thread, INCLUDING your initial insult, for the betterment of the thread, I would agree, and I would be happy to then move any further discussion of the matter to a PM format. Until that point, I prefer to keep all discussion open and above board, and with a full light shining on it.

I'm a gunbroker member but I'd never buy a gun on their to many scams goin on these days on auction sites. I would rather buy here on the gunboards because you always look the person up and contact them and ask them why hasn't your firearm been delivered. I still have bought any guns on here yet but I'm interested in a mauser on here so hopping to pick that up.

Mauser98, That is why GB, AA, Ebay, etc. have feedback. Screw with enough people and you get booted, or no-one will buy from you anyway. True, buying here on Gunboards is a whole lot smaller community, but I still hear of problems. Do your homework, ask questions, ask for more pictures, and hopefully won't run into problems. I sell on GB & Ebay regularly, and let me tell you there are just as many bad buyers out there. I have actually asked people not to bid on my item because I see trouble coming. "I want a mint gun for your average gun and price." So, it goes both ways. Skid

 

What about if there are suspicions about a forum member? I would have thought that this could be raised with a moderator to enable a more familiar eye to check.
