Good afternoon, I have a few Tokarev TT-33's I purchased a kit to convert one of them to fire .9mm ammo, kit has a .9mm barrel and a magazine with a spacer, question ? Will the factory barrel bushing work just fine or do I need a different bushing ? I emailed the company (waiting) just thought I would get some opinions here.

There are diff 9mm bbls out there. All the ones I’ve seen require a special bushing, which I’ve not been able to find. The only option in the US I’ve had is to buy a “compensator” that’s milled to replace the 9mm bushing… it works, but is far from ideal.

Navy arms TU 90 ? Could we have a picture of the kit in its original packaging? see Norinco magazines ...

Allen I see your kit is not an actual Navy Arms one, After market.

Please update us on its function. Does it chew up brass, cause jams? Is the barrel made in China? How does the recoil spring in the original pistol handle the 9mm- too weak, too strong.

Any feeding problems or sticking magazines? Is the mag spring strength about the same as a normal Tokarev mag?
Allen, thanks for the link. This kit is interesting. Maybe do a review. Could you post a copy of the instructions that came with the kit?

Got some years ago what was advertised online as a "Chinese made" 9mm barrel for the TT-33; mine's a Russian-built 1939.

Installed it (Perfect drop-in) but the barrel locked itself against the bushing when the slide backed after each shot. Upon inspection noted the evident machined marks in the whole lenght of the tube, specially closer to the chamber, so took a rag, some polishing compound and buffed all the rough spots to a look closer to the original Russian 7.62 barrel. Not mirror-shine but smoother than it looked before.
Also replaced the original mainspring with a new one from Numrich. The rest is "as issued"

Lubed the barrel with some light gun grease, reassembled and took it to the range with the original 7.62 magazine (No converted 9mm. mag available) 9mm rounds did fit loose from the front but anyway the pistol ran with zero issues with every factory FMJ 115 & 124 ammo I could find except with the cheap steel-cased Winchesters (FTFs & FTEs).

Several boxes of ammo later (Maybe 700 rounds total) it hasn't failed again, not even with the original mag. Only used it as an occasional "range toy".

I have a Chinese made copy of the Tokarev pistol (Mod. 213) in 9mm. This pistol is almost mint and has less than one mag. of commercial ammo shot through it. These pistols can no longer be imported and most likely never will be again. I believe their value will only increase, especially in near mint condition. So I'll most likely never shoot it again. But I like shooting this style of ;pistol in 9mm. I have a Yugo M 57 pistol in 7.62x25 mm, much like the Mod. 213 . I removed the barrel and recoil spring from the Mod. 213 and installed them in the M 57 pistol. Fit just fine. I loaded a full load of 9mm in the magazine of the M 57 and fired them all in fairly rapid shooting. Everything worked just fine.

Partial update....received the 9mm kit today, everything fit perfectly gun locks up nice and tight, kit came with a chrome barrel and 2 magazines, mags also have the short extended floor plates with pinky grip seems much more comfortable with the short grip that Tokarev's have...just have to wait till my club opens next week....closed to due to covid semi lockdown...

so did the converted barrel ever work? Also, would there be a way to have this shipped to the united states?

There was also a .38 super barrel available and I recall seeing importer had a package with the pistol and 9mm and .38 super barrel all in one package or it may have been the kit with just the two extra barrels. Anyways I did pick up a .38 super barrel years ago but have not got around to trying it out yet.

.38 special would be fun to try, would be great to have 3 different barrels to play with....I am fairly new to Tokarev's but are quickly becoming a favorite of mine, have 2 Chinese Type 54s and a Yugo M57....will pick up another soon as prices here in Canada are still low and don't require the awful added safeties.

Got to the range last night, the conversation kit was flawless....the Tokarev ate up all the 9mm ammo no problems, the 2 magazines with the spacers worked perfectly as did the original mags made for 7.62x25 all in all very pleased with the kit, next week will try the kit in my Zastava M57 see how that goes.

I have a Norinco Mod. 213 in 9mm and a Yogo M57 in 7.62x25mm . I was curious and installed the 9mm barrel and recoil spring from the Norinco into the M57. I loaded the M 57 mag. with 9mm ammo (no spacer no nothing) and put the mag. in the grip of the M57. I racked the M57 slide and chambered a round, pointed the pistol down range and fired away with the full mag. All rounds fired with no malfunctions. I removed the 9mm barrel and recoil spring from the M57 and installed it back into the Norinco, satisfied that all worked well.
Since the Norinco pistols most likely will never be imported again, I'll keep the Norinco Mod. 213 in its original condition and likely never fire it again. I might swap barrels and recoil spring again but never fire the 213 as it is now.

wait so the 9mm barrels for the Type 54's fit in the M57?

That's pretty big news, I never even considered trying those in my M57 because I thought the captive recoil spring of the M57 prevented interchangeability with parts from other tokarevs

bright ----- I didn't say "Type 54". I said I took the barrel and recoil spring from a 9mm Chinese Norinco Mod. 213 and installed them into my Yugo M 57 pistol. Everything worked just fine and there was no malfunctions at all firing 9mm ammo in the M57 pistol. Thanks for looking and asking the question.
