Damnit now I want a Bakelite SVD mag. Why did I have to learn that those exist?!

 

They aren’t actually Bakelite (the example in the photos is painted like Bakelite, which some of them were for whatever reason) but made out of some early iteration of polymer similar to what they started using for furniture in the 1990s. Unfortunately they are prone to cracking around the metal parts, presumably why they weren’t adopted.

 

For the record, both the metal and polymer are 15 round magazines, I own both and have tested them. They were experimental for the B-70 program but never adopted.

 

Talking to someone here that told me the big metal one was a 15 rounder, here is a frankestein rewelded one that he told me to be a 20 rounder:
