Found this AUG at a shop local to me and I am thinking about purchasing it but I have almost no information on it. Im not sure which model it is and the optic system is also unfamiliar. I have a few pictures but they are not very good. Any information that can be given is appreciated

That is very nice Hensoldt scope on it and Hensoldt makes quality scopes. I don't think you could go wrong with that scope on the rifle. If it was mine, I sure wouldn't even think about replacing the scope!

I don't know what you have circled in the second picture. Is it on the rifle or on the scope. Too fuzzy to really tell.

It looks to me to be the bolt operating handle from here.

Pre -89 with an A2 receiver was the kind of information I was looking for! The Scope is banged up a bit but the glass is great. Ive seen scopes like this one on HK91s before.

The Thing i have circled is the charging handle. It has a very small button on top. I have never seen this type of handle on an AUG before. I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light.

Again sorry for the pictures. I look a video instead of pictures and had to take screen shots to get these.

Any aproximation on value of the scope and gun together? i have seen the scopes for 500-700$ generally.

I am unsure on the series. How would one determine the series?

Itsa 16” barrel. Do not see serial matching numbers on the barrel to the gun. Also do not serial matching numbers on the upper receiver. Stock is green and A2 as you stated above.

Gun has been a safe queen for the last decade, owner has never shot it but the rifling appears almost mint.

Typically the serial is located in the circled area on the receiver

The scope is a Hensoldt Ferro model 2. Its a 4X with a built in BDC & ranging reticule. The 3rd knob is a dipotric adjustment for eyesight.
Here's a copy of the H&K manual for it.
Be very careful setting up the turrets for zero. The 2 small screws must NOT be backed of more than 1~1 1/2 turns & never over-tightened.

The whole rig is a pretty rare item, Rifle & Scope. The Rifle with the STANAG mount is scarce in US. The Scope was made to be used on the SIG 550 Series of rifles and is so marked, again pretty scarce. The button on the charging handle when pushed in will allow you to push the bolt closed if it doesn't close all the way due to dirt, build up, etc. Same as the bolt closure on AR15 / 16. Truthfully, today, a "solution to a non existent problem." Unless the Seller gets all dreamy eyed, I think $2K would be more in line, but, $2,400 not out of line, but top dollar when you go to resell. Just my 2 Cents. Skid

No idea on the total price, but the scope sells for $500~$600 currently.
Question:
Has anyone ever seen a model 2 Hensoldt where the ranging cam is calibrated for 5.56mm?
I haven't, But they may exist. Every one I've seen is for the H&K 91 in 7.62.

Plonker, think you are off on your scope price, as several have said, rare scope made for the SIG 550 or the STG 90, both of which are 5.56MM NATO. I am going to check my NATO Numbers for a 5.56mm. Teelau, "Rifle was listed at 2900$" (sic) "was listed" has it sold? OK, appears I have 2 scopes of this type camed for 5.56mm. A ZF G41 Hensoldt made for the HK33 series, and a Swarovski ZFM 4x25mm made for the Austrian Rifles. Quick search finds them mentioned as pretty rare, for older Assault rifle's. The one in the OP's pictures is more modern and first one I have seen in U.S. But I have been out for a while. As far as the $2,900 - Hmm... Could justify at $900 for scope and $2,000 for rifle. Limited buyers, maybe not.

They have another AUG similar to this one. Its black but Also A2 receiver. Mix matched parts, no serials match on the gun. This one has some kind of prototype scope on it that they think is worth $$$$. Im going to see if they will separate the gun and scope.

We all pretty much in agreement that the gun is worth 2000-2200$?

That is a rare Kern 4x24 scope (especially in the U.S.), made for the SIG Stgw57/PE57--- alone worth $7,000.00+, without the correct mount and case--- here is some information:

100 released to civilian market/serial numbers- 140176 through 140275; 20 converted in early 1990’s to ZF90 for Stgw90/serial numbers- 140278 through 140297)

From the poor picture, it is a standard STANAG NATO Mount. As Tony says, and as far as I know, any scope with STANAG compatible mounts will work. Many use the HK 7.62 NATO standard cam on 5.56mm Rifles, just need to determine the difference in cam markings from one to the other. Not a big deal on low to medium ranges. Many 7.62mm cam scopes around, few 5.56mm.

Just look at an Inch pattern SUIT & an Izzy Suit!
They did the math for you!
They sent a couple of Izzy shooters into the desert & said "Come up with new numbers"!
& they did.

I may be in la-la land, but my impression was that original pre-'89 AUGs were quite scarce and sold for prices more like $5,000 and up. Maybe "and up" a lot these days.

Tony's "a cobbled-together rifle" observation - IOW not a gen-u-wine intact pre-ban - seems perfectly consistent with the numbers cited here.

Maybe what surprises me is the idea that there was much cobbling going on back in those halcyon days before that ugly 1989 spring morning surprise. Why bother to cobble when you could just buy a real imported Steyr Aug for $600 or whatever they were? (That's pretty close I think.)

That's about the price I remember, too. I was considering buying one in 1989, but when the prices almost immediately jumped to $1000+ when the ban hit, my interest cooled a lot in a hurry.

Yes, it was cool, neat, interesting, and all that, but i reasoned that since I wasn't really into CQB in my neighborhood, that platform didn't really improve on what I could do with my AR's.

As I've grown older that built-in 1.5x sight has loomed larger in my "CQB" calculations. Plus the cool factor was always way-high. But yeah.

I got lucky and acquired one in a complicated trade. But I also paid-up a few times in the post-'89 aftermath, and over time have been rewarded for doing so.
