I have a star model b I paid about $280 for it serial number 674578 I just want some history on it because it has a flare in the frame but it has a groove and uses a narrow magazine

Bilder, The serial number you posted is for a Model A (9mm Largo). Could you post photos of the serial number on the butt and Star proofing (probably under left grip) and speaking of grips those definitely not original and the weapon’s finish may be a reblue but your photos could be very misleading there. The Serial given was for a pistol made and proofed in 1960.

Shazam!! F1 is the code for 1960, perhaps the serial number sequence is incorrect or someone needed to fill a order for a B and simply diverted a serialized frame to fill it....or maybe I am all wet:confused::confused:
There is not much more that can be divulged from a standard production pistol that does not have any special markings. On the left side of the slide where it indicates 9mm does it have a P following? Have you tried to put a Largo cartridge in the chamber? Is the barrel serialized to the frame?

The wide or removeable floor plate magazine will not fit far enough into the pistol to engage the magazine release. Your pistol takes the recessed floor plate mag so that is what you are stuck with. Original Magazines are difficult to find and aftermarket are very “iffy” at best for quality. I have a number of Triple K mags with the fixed floor plate and failure rate is quite high from being too wide for the opening to feed lip problems to floor plates suddenly departing the mag and ammunition following quickly behind. Others have worked as expected but I am always fearful of a floor plate launch and would not trust the mag for serious carry.
