Thinking of getting a solid rock scope mount for a k31...need a scope with enough MOA to get to 1000. I have a scope with 75 moa is that enough. Thanks

If my math is correct, as long as the bullet drop is less than 62.5 feet it should be fine. This is assuming that your zero at 100 yards is at the bottom on the dial's turn (all the way down) I think GP11 will drop somewhere around 35 feet at 1000 yards. That is a very rough estimate, it could/probably is +/- 10 feet.

I don't know what k31 is or what the cartridge is but if you'll give me some numbers (bullet weight, velocity, etc) it is easy enough to run a ballistic chart.

75MOA in a scope is, in effect, only about 37 MOA adjustment from optically centered. You don't really want to have the crosshair at the extreme top or bottom of the tube, for several reasons. Target shooters will typically use tapered rings or bases which will allow for the crosshairs to be optically centered at the long distances. Of course, that means that they will not be centered at short distances (100 yards) but you have to make a trade off somewhere.

39.7 one-inch-per-100-yard "clicks" (36.2 true MOA) from 200 yard zero to 1000 yard. If your scope is centered at 200 yard zero, all you can get with 75 MOA total travel is 37.5 MOA up or down.

This kind of problem is where the .0473" difference between one minute of angle (1.0473" at 100 yards) and the casual "one-inch-per-100-yards" definition starts to become significant. The answer to the question may depend on the actual value of your scope's adjustments.

An expedient practical check is to attempt adjusting the scope to group 41" above point-of-aim at 100 yards. If it can do that, you should be OK at 1000.

Like all calculated ballistics, this is an educated guess based on a specific set of assumptions. Only test firing will give positive confirmation. (Drop at 1000 is 38 feet by this calculation.)

Even if you are able to get +41" at 100 yards, you will be at or near the bottom of the optical center. You'll find that your horizontal adjustment will be severly restriced also, and with 10 MOA required for a 10mph cross wind (plus another minute or so of drift due to twist) you are going to be pushing the envelope of that scope.

If you intend to do much shooting at 1000 yards you'd be better served with a tapered base or rings. If you've never shot at 1000 yards, I'm here to tell you that it's a long way (I'm a 1000 yard Benchrest shooter) and you'll probably tire of it before too many shots. I would not spend a lot of money trying to buy a scope/base/rings combination just for 1000 yards.

Burris Posi-align rings

Burris Signature Series rings use nylon inserts to clamp the scope. They are made in different sizes from "0" to .020" so that a (1" tube) scope can be tilted in the rings without damaging or stressing the tube. I'm currently using +/- .020 on one of my rifles with the + in the rear and - in the front to effectively give me .040" tilt in the scope. Unfortunately, their 30mm rings are only offered with "0" and .010 so only allow half as much tilt.

Besides this, your only other option that I'm aware of is to look for a scope with lots of elevation.

The Rock Solid scope mount looks like "the real deal".

I was just going to post and ask this. Can a Swiss K31 be made into a 1,000yd rifle? Is the swiss GP11 ammo good for this distance? Does anyone have a load worked up for the 175gr FMJBT bullets yet for this distance?

Sorry i'm kind of scope ignorant but i have scopes that have 100yd to 500yd BDC(bullet drop compisation) i can adjust it so there is no hold over. Is there a scope that has this feature that can go out to 1,000yds?

Guisan gotcha! Of course a 1911, a k31, a zfk55 and a PE97 will all shoot 1,000 yards with a scope with enough elevation moa. Many of us have done it, its done at National Shoots and YouTube is full of scoped k31 1,000 yard shots.
Have you researched the ballistics of a GP11 or a custom load?
