I’d appreciate Forum members opinion on this badly corroded 84/98 sawback bayonet please.I know it’s in a pretty aweful condition!.. but there’s just something about the corrosion/pitting that bothers me.The wooden grips are pretty dinged up.. sawback teeth are relatively undamaged.. maybe the tip was rounded off as it was damaged… but do members thing the pitting/corrosion is authentic/genuine or possibly artificial??

Could be derusted but the grips were probably removed,after derusting it was probably cleaned with rotating burst, i believe the piece could be period. Is the locking lug functional, the rifle slot shoudl be inspected. The tip of blade was broken off probably and rounded? normally it should have 10 inch lenght. Any markings to found?
0,7 of inch is missing there, the grips could be removed as visible the screw countersunk has damage in slot. Or it was cleaned with grips one covered by something. On left ricasso could be something, but probably removed by derusting.
