Greetings, I’m being offered this Mosin sniper for under $1k. From a freind of a friend, the picture are well to put it best mostly poor and to me who know very little about Mosins let alone a Sniper Version do not reveal much. I requested a lot more pictures and closeups ect. I will post when I receive them. Is there a chance from theses limited photos it’s even close to being something real? Thanks for all your help.

God Bless

Yeah these photos are of pretty limited use. The important points will be the top barrel stamp, there should be an additional serial number along the stock line on the barrel, and a better picture of the scope stamping would help a lot.

It looks to be correct mount based off the wide milling lines, but that scope stamp kindof looks like one of the knockoffs but it is hard to tell from the photo.

Well I was going to add to the conversation but you seem to get it, not enough information to say what it actually is, put together, rescoped or true military build. Too cheap to be original probably, good luck

All we need is photo of the barrel shank markings and the scope mount.

However the rifle is promising if the bolt is matching to the rifle, as MH prefix falls under both 1943 and 1944 snipers for Izhevsk being a 4 number digit serial.

As others stated, scope looks to be real and the scope bracket has machining marks typical of izhevsk.
Stock looks really nice too with cartouches still visible.

So the bad thing with most of the good mosin books, they are they are out of print and were limited runs to begin with. Aka they are expensive and hard to find, and many of them are not in english. 😅

M91/30 rifles and M38/M44 carbines in 1941-1945, accessories and devices (Model 1891/1930 rifle) - Alexander Yuschenko
This is the main one from Alexander. The English physical printing are near impossible to find, Russian copies a bit easier. An ebook version was available on amazon and came with the sites patron subscription. However, due to the Russia/Ukriane war Alexander has not been updateing the site and the book was pulled from the Amazon store front.

Between Alexander's book and Chumak's "The History of the Three-Line Rifle Model 1891" which is only in Russian, you get about the best and most document backed history of the Russian mosin rifle. Chumak also has a great many other associated books like one dealing with referbishment and associated marks and the 7.62x54r cartriges history, of course all in Russian.

If you want Finnish info check out "Finnish Mosin - Nagant, Three Line Rifle to Ukko Pekka"- Matt DiRisio. It is good, and a fairly recent release. Best yet, still in print from Wet Dog Publishing.

Also, if you have not found it on youtube, "History of WWI Primer 074: Russian Mosin-Nagant 1891 Documentary" - C&Rsenal dose about as indepth view as you can smash in to two hours for the Mosin history Berdan to the end of WW1 M1891. Then in the next couple days they should be releaseing the M1891/30 episode.

Thanks so much everyone’s input and knowledge. I’m going to try and find Alexander’s book, but for now get the Finish one. I have no new information on the PU the owner is out of state dealing with an ill parent, once I hear or receive anything more I’ll post on this thread. Thanks again and God Bless
