Makarov importer?

I bought a IJ 70 commercial Makarov yesterday. Didn't give all that much for it, and in near new condition with 4 mags. No holster, lanyard, and whatever other accessories it originaly came with.

The slide has "Big Bear Arms, Dallas Texas" on the left side. Thats an importer I've not heard of before.

Was Big Bear Arms a high volume Mak importer?

Thanks, Stevie

I have been successful in getting a Mak to fail by loading 95g bullets down to below 650fps - with a 21# recoil spring it will usually fail to lock open on the last round, and will sometimes fail to feed the next round from the magazine (although it's perfectly reliable on both counts with the regular recoil spring.)

Other than that, it's just bang, bang, bang . . . Boooorrrrring. :D

A while back I took a new Bulgarian Makarov and tried to make it malfunction.
Sank it in mud, froze it, left the gun and loaded magazine in water, filled the inside with lint and hair and other junk and did a handful of other "tests".

The closest the gun came to malfunctioning was when the mud blocked the hammer from hitting the firing pin, but it fired on the second trigger pull.

The test was a thousand rounds and the gun still hasn't had the first gun caused malfunction.

Big Bear claimed 1000, but members here have reported serial numbers higher than that. I once owned 004. Looks like maybe 2k came in.

Value? Most are reportedly bought for under $200 by the unknowing. Have seen them sell for $300 to Makanados. Bummer that a commemorative is in the wrong freakin' caliber compared to the original.

I tried my Big Bear Mak with some ancient Norinco green box ammo(left from owning a Mak years ago).

A monotonous shooting session, as the IJ70 refused to jam, and shoots perfectly to point of aim. Shoots just as well as an identical IJ70 I owned in the 1990's.

I know, I hate those boring, "nothing goes wrong" range sessions too. They always seem to happen when I take the Maks.. :)
