Any one have reloading data on loading 30-30 Win with 135 gr lead bullets and IMR 4198 powder. Have lots of of data in my reloading books but it is all for jacket bullets. Trying to load around 1500 FPS. Trying to get a load that will not lead barrel up without using gas checks.

I've never done lead in a 30-30 but have done lots of plain base lead bullets in a .32 special. 150 grain slugs were on at 30 yds if the full power loads were on at 100. I used to cast bullets out of whatever scrape I could dig out of backstops. Pan lubed them with a bee's wax-tallow mix. I think you'll get leading at 1500 fps. I think you'll need to stay around 12-1400 fps in order to keep a clean barrel.

I think that is a bit quick as well for just lead. I don't do 30-30, but do 30 Remington and that is basically a rimless 30-30. I started getting lead in a model 8 at a tick over 1200, and I had to push them a tick harder to make the little rifle run.

I just went to jacket bullets and did not look back.
