I wish I knew what "bugle call" music looked like to see if the book contained any. The book seems to contain music for at least 100 songs. Interesting discussion on the use of the bugles in combat zones.

As the bugles don't have valves, they are limited as to what notes they can or can't play. Usually they don't play much more than the 1, 3, and 5 of the scale they are tuned to.

(Sonoda's g/f again. It's been three years since I've translated anything classical -- what I previously did was a chapter from Tsurezuregusa as part of my Classical Japanese class, not a patriotic song. I knew it wasn't gonna be quite correct, and I'll admit I did a double-take upon seeing the title. "Inochi o sutete?! Isn't that a bit morbid?!" Haha =D )

Tsurezuregusa ? excellent !
FYI, the word "Masurawo" comes from the poems of Manyo-shu.

(Ah, yes, Manyoshu. Had to read parts of that too, and The Pillow Book, and Genji Monogatari (in English, though I think I stopped reading at the Uji chapters, lol).

As for Tsurezuregusa, I did chapter 19. Just went and looked at it after I did my last post. Of course, it probably only looks good since the teacher gave me a vocab list for it!!)

Edokko, thank you for the further comments, translation, and information. I have a new respect for my little book. Albacore, picture one below might be a bugle call, based on the other information you gave, sorry if it's not. I included pictures of what I believe to be the table of contents. I don't have an expectation that anyone translate it, I just thought maybe if anyone could read it they might be able to tell where the bugle calls might be found in the book. Great discussion, and interesting information about Japanese use of the bugle. Zach

That score you have on upper left is the Japanese national anthem. Pages 346 to 362 is the national anthems of various countries including the Star Spangled Banner on page 352.
The bugle scores are supposed to be part of or separate appendix pages according to the table of contents, but should be at the very end, if it is part of the book.

Edokko, thanks again. My ignorance of the Japanese language and of music knows no bounds. I posted the pages of the Star Spangled Banner in post 19 above if anyone is curious. Below are some further pictures of the last pages in the book, this might be the appendix you are referring to. Again, thank you for the help and your patience. Zach

My god, I think you found them, those look like it! Priceless information for someone like me... is that the only ones shown in the book, or are there more?

Thanks gentlemen, I guess I finally figured it out. :D "Sonoda," I will photograph the pages in the appendix for you. PM me with an email address and I will send them to you (anyone else interested may do the same). Wait till my girlfriend finds out we are going to the late movie, ha ha ha. "Sonoda," do you play the bugle? You know I'm expecting a wav file of the tunes when you get good a playing them, just kidding.:) Zach
