WWI German Model S14 (variously called the S15 and Gottscho) bayonet. Nice Condition overall, with good markings. Pommel has some darkening, but blade is bright with some minor staining. No scabbard. See photos for condition.

Made for only about one year, according to both Carter (1991: 161) and Jackson (2006: 6, 53), this bayonet is “Very Scarce” to “Rare” and is much sought after by collectors. (For instance, only 8 examples of this bayonet were recorded (comprising just 0.005% of the 1,500 bayonets recorded) during Jackson’s (2006: 1) survey.) This is the Model/Type II bayonet, with a one-piece wooden grip and not equipped with a flashguard. The grip is in excellent condition, with no cracks or dents. It is. Only about 27,000 of this type of bayonet were manufactured in Berlin and delivered for use. While it is believed that Mundlo supplied the blades, this bayonet was assembled by “KS”, one of 8 or 9 unknown small subsidiary companies. The S14 type II was sold to the Prussian, Bavarian and Württemberg military. This bayonet has what I believe to be a Bavarian (Köenig Ludwig III) acceptance stamp on the blade spine near the crosspiece.
