So I may be thinking about looking for a CG-63 in the next month or two to add to my collection. I have wanted one for a long time. I have been searching online both here and abroad, and trying to find ones for sale at online auctions. So far I have come up with nothing. I am really just trying to get a rough estimate of what the current market value is on these. If I do find one, I want to make sure I get a fair price and do not get taken. But with not finding any for sale, it is hard for me to gauge a average value.
I was hoping the experts here might be able to help a little. I know true value is gun specific and can vary depending on condition and features. But a rough estimate would be very helpful. Something like xx to xx is a steal, yy to yy is average, and above zz is crazy.

Thanks.

Might also be interested in a CG-80, but it looks like from what I can find online, they are a more rare breed than a CG-63 and may fetch a much higher price? If so that will probably push them out of my price range.
I would be happy with either one (I would however not be able to afford both) so it would be one or the other.

Just what I was looking for. The price range you listed was pretty close to what I was expecting. Definitely a attainable goal, all I need to do now is find the right one. I have been known to be picky.

There is a good source here in Canada, but I don't think they ship to the States unfortunately.

Man you are lucky, I wish a US seller had that big of a selection at those prices! At those prices (converted from CDN to USD) I would could buy two! Sadly they do not ship to the US. Plus importing one would probably be a royal PITA and cost a arm and a leg.

I am looking for one too. Its been around four months now. I have been looking all over the world and when you take into account shipping and other costs, they’re between $400. And $1,000. I would agree with sheepdawg on his average. I still haven’t found one the meets my expectations for what I am willing to pay. The m80s are a lot rarer, but not necessarily more expensive for the same quality.

Have you tried searching M63 instead of CG63?

Simpsons has a couple for sale in the $650 to $700 range right now: https://www.simpsonltd.com/search?q=cg+63 , but they are both missing sight parts. Both show good bores. I got one from Simpsons missing the front globe sight when they had a big batch about a year ago, and the prices were lower then. It is pretty easy to find a replacement front aperture globe sight. Finding the correct rear sight is trickier, since they all use different hole spacing. If you watch Simpsons closely, they get complete rifles in occasionally, but they sell very quickly.

For some reason the link I posted is not working, but if you go to the Simpson's website and do a search for "CG 63" it will bring up 2 rifles. One is missing the rear sight and the other is missing the front sight. The one missing the rear sight looks like the receiver has been prepped for a GF type of sight since it has the groove cut in the receiver. That rifle comes with a nice sling, so if you can find a GF diopter, probably a decent deal.

I would wait for a complete riffle.
It will probably be hundreds of dollars to try to import or find a sight, and you're dealing with tiny metric screws and unknown missing parts, have patience.
I was wrong, there are two on the Simpson site. I'm not familliar with the exact model of the other one, but there were different levels of target rifles available depending how serious you were and what you could afford.

Keep an eye out for one on Gunbroker. They show up now and then. Always get one with a matched bolt to the receiver. The Soderin or Elit diopter sights are the most common which could be important if a part is needed.

Yep, definitely going to wait for a complete rifle. I have been watching gunbroker with no luck so far. I have a feeling though, seeing as how rarely they show up on there, that if one does show up, it will get bidded up way past my budget.
But I am a patient person, I have waited a year or two to find exactly what I was looking for in the past. So the search starts.

I think the last few CG63s on Gunbroker went for right in your price range. Christmas time is coming and people are going to need money. What to do with the old Swedish rifle in the safe with the funny sights. Haven't shot it in years. Think positive.

Thanks for the link. Google says that translates to $444 USD, not a bad price, and looks to be a very nice one. However how much would it cost to ship and import into the US. That could possibly bump the price closer to what you can find one already here. Plus, how long could that take to get here, and what nightmares could befall upon it's trip here and through customs...

Well I thought I found one. It was on the higher end of the price range, but looked to be a really nice one. The seller stated in their ad they did not want to ship. Ok, I understand some people do not want to deal with it. So I used google and found a gun store in their area and called them. They were more than willing to help me out. I could pay him, then have him drop off the rifle to them, they would take care of the rest. The seller still did not want to do that. I ended up having to pass on the deal.

No matter how many guns we may own, there's nothing like the thrill of buying another one. Its a shame it didn't work out for you, but as Swede said, you're probably better off staying away from that guy. What's that saying, all good things come to those who can wait and shoot straight.

I was looking almost every day for over four months, until I found the right one for me. I bought the one I sent you the link to. The 1900 Oberndorf. Now I have to wait and see how long it takes until I get it in my hands. Keep looking. I'm sure you will find the right one for you.

Not that odd to see a CG63 with a straight bolt. A lot of later conversions were done with m/96s, especially by private gunsmiths. Let see the left side of the receiver for the serial number and perhaps a conversion date.
