I don't think it has been refinished but I'm no expert. It has such a deep lustrous bluing, the pictures don't do it justice. I don't ever plan on selling it but what is the going price on these, I did check online but they seem to be anywhere from $300 to over $1000 but I can't get a feel for the real value.

 

Some pictures in natural indirect light and with a steady camera will give a best representation. Wipe it down with some good oil, and clean it, too. The slide does look a little suspect, but it might be smudging, reflections and blurry focus.

It might go crazy on Gunbroker with the current high demand. But to a collector, and if not refinished, it looks like a $4-500 pistol in a calm economy.

I paid $400 for mine a couple of years ago. The $1,000 guns are in 98% or better and with original box, in a normal economy.

I would wager the OP's has not been refinish,
would need to have it in hand, or better pics, to be sure

the wear marks are consistent,
the stampings/rollmarks are consistent too, don't appear to be buffed out



Matt is correct on pricing,

 

It looks to have been polished to me, the lettering on the right side looks to be almost polished out. I didn't want to say anything, but I'll tag on to the refinished opinion. Not that it matters.

 

Well I talked to my friend today and asked him if he knew if it was original or refinished at all and I have a definitive answer. He had it refinished back in the 80's, he bought it for $25 dollars from a friend of his who got it from a trucker who wanted some drinking money years before. He said the finish was pretty worn and so he had it refinished, shows how much I know. You guys have a good eye for this, thanks.

 

I believe it is just the slide. The frame has sharp corners and the proof and inspection marks are crisp.

My friend did say that if you look close there is a slight difference between the slide and frame bluing and the slide is what was worn and what he had refinished so you are right martin08 it's just the slide. Thanks to all of you for the input and comments!

That one has not been buffed. All lines are straight, corners are sharp.

 

I think it is, just showing its age. Nice pistol.

392589 is from 1932
45297 is 1911

310808 is 1922 (mine)

I'm not sure about the finish. I would like to have it in my hand to be more definitive.

With this second look in better light, I would say that the gun is refinished. The left front slide has wavy edges which should be straight. Also, the polishing was applied too long in this area.

 

Look at the second picture..........Just doesn't look to have a Colt finish. Please look at Colt pictures of the same 1908 Colts pictured above.

I agree with English. The finish is way brilliant, and the other pistols don't/didn't. A very good rebluing, if that's the case. Polishing artfully and then blued. It's just too nice for a 1910-made gun. The "blue" photos make it look artificial, but then, in the first photos on page 1, the finish looks more original, almost, but still too nice for a gun that old. Beautiful.
