Carcano bolt serial numbers {?}

About half of my Carcano rifles & carbines have a serial number on their bolt.
Any insight into this?
I know the US never, or almost never put serial numbers on their rifles - from M1903 to M16
I store my bolts & trigger groups separately, & alas no idea except "hmmm this one is a rifle"
final point - why I have 6.5 headspace gauges, straight from Italy
THANKS

If the USA had good manufacturing process in place no serial numbers were needed. The Germans probably did better than us with manufacturing the K98 and they went ahead with numbers because IMHO they were nutty with numbers. My little bit of trail an error and swapping, the M91 bolts seem to interchange. FWIW. Probably not much value in that comment. Others will know more. That Carcano production spanned a lot of years and a many armory locations. Changes over time and location would be more expected than a surprise to me.

So my question back at you, what is worse practice not numbering the bolts or storing the guns with the bolts removed? You might as well stamp your own numbers. Are the bolts burring in a survival tube in your back yard?

I keep them separate - bolts & rifles - regarding a bit of theft protection. Some tweaker bringing a scoped Model 70 with no bolt might bring about suspicion, at least in MT. Does this seem so extreme, paranoid, or absurd? Didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition! I also take the lightbulb out of the gunroom socket when we leave the house. My trial & error is headspace gauges. And 27 years in the infantry, I saw M16s/M4s besides M60s/240Bs with bolts stored separately, in numbered canvas pouches. The armorers told me "head space" Maybe look at yours eh
ps. what is "burring?"

Not Spanish Inquisition, the Gun Boards Inquisition, nobody gets burned alive. I keep my stuff together as my departure maybe more imminent. And, I have seen to many boltless guns.

I wont call you paranoid if you dont call me reckless. I only shot 2 Carcano carbines to date. The bolt closed on factory ammo. I shot a round, examine the brass. Looked good to me. Shoot 19 more rounds. Dont even ask about POI. After that, the brass is forever dedicated to that particular gun. Like a bolt.

I neck size and reload. I dont even have a Carcano die set. I used some other 6.5 dies. I forget what. Please dont call me cheap either. And, Dont ask me about my loads, I have doubts and concerns that are way off topic. I have moved on to other things.
