Bolt Release Disassembly Question

Ok... I feel a bit stupid asking this (as I've done it in the past) but I cannot, for the life of me, remember which direction to tap the bolt stop cover to get it out of the bolt release lever. There is a bunch of grime in there - on the ejector and the underside of the cover - and getting to it is impossible without disassembly. This is a matching CE43 and I don't want to mar up the thing. I've soaked it in Kroil but the thing won't budge. It seems to me, from past experience, there is a right and wrong direction to tap this thing.

Any information is appreciated!

I would be very hesitant to remove the bolt stop cover on an all matching example. With the ejector removed you can use a toothpick or a plastic pick to loosen up the stubborn gunk. Then put the assembly with the ejector removed in a small pot and boil the parts in water for 20 minutes. That should do a good job of further loosening grime/dirt or debris. Then follow up with a kroil soak.

I would only mess with the bolt stop cover if it was actually broken as you run a BIG risk of breaking it especially during reassembly.

Interesting! I had no idea that one should not remove the large flat spring from the bolt stop/release. This assembly was throughly gunked up on my recently acquired, all matching byf42 98k. After removing the hinge pin/screw, I removed the whole stop/release from the rifle and tapped the spring off forward. After cleaning the whole sheebang, it was easily reassambled and reinstalled.

Glad it worked for you but I think you got a little lucky. The spring steel is notorious for breaking. You didn't have any issue with reassembly? What was your procedure to get the opposite end of the spring over the bolt stop lip when tapping the spring into position?
