I was able to secure a nice example of a Finn Captured SVT-40 for a solid price. The gun was made in Podolsk factory and as typical with these, most parts are mismatched. The bore is a little dark but nice and sharp. What is interesting about this rifle, is the stock has two storage compartments behind the buttplate. Never new SVTs had those. The sling is a nice reproduction SVT-40 sling that I got on Ebay. Also, since I was in a good mood, I decided to bring out the cool varieties of 7.62x54r and throw them in the photoshoot. Enjoy

Nice find! The “storage compartments” you’re referring to are actually just meant to lighten the rifle. They tried to shave weight wherever possible. That said, I do usually still check them (but not on refurbs) just in case someone stuffed something in there at some point in the past.

alks,

Very nice SVT-40, Finnish capture. What was the "solid price" in 2025? I was discharged in August 1966 from USAF and next month I started college under the G.I. Bill. I received $155.00 a month as a full time student. In 1967, a classmate sold me a SVT-40 for $40.00. She is {SA} marked and shoots well. My rental house three blocks from the college was $70 per month and the wife agreed I needed to buy the Tokarev, which I did. The rifle is in vault #1 right now.

I did shoot some wildlife with the 40 one summer morning on the Texas range where I was all alone. I went to the 100-yard target line to patch my target and was slinging the 40. About 15 yards from the target was a HUGE coiled Water Moccasin that meant business was in my path. I unslung the 40 and blasted all 10 rounds of ball into the coiled critter! Yes, I like the SVT-40 along with the Hakim, ABL M49 and the Garand.

Be well.
