I'm still looking into it, but some sources are saying yes, others say it was the Pattern 1896 that was adopted and used more. That is not to say that the Pattern 1890 was never used; some troops were carrying the Pattern 1853 cavalry sword alongside the Pattern 1822 that was issued to them. So perhaps the Pattern 1890 found its way into the Northwest Mounted Police in smaller numbers.
