Is there a resource for seeing and understanding the difference of canvas slings used by the US military for the Garand, M1903 variations, M1917, etc. throughout their use in different wars? To my understanding it’s the same sling just different textures.
I like to add period correct slings to my rifles. Originals preferred or at least quality replicas if I can’t afford the real thing. I’ve been lucky to pick up a few original M1907 leather slings with correct brass buckles and flush rivets that I’ve put to use, but along the way I’ve also grabbed a few canvas US slings. Some are heavier texture and some smooth like a seatbelt. I never end up using them because I can’t find info on what’s correct for a certain time period or how to tell the difference between replica and original.
Is there a preferred reference for this, or do most people pick up info along the way, or just not care?
