So they really did export these in the 50s?I know they were outdated when they were being produced, but surplusing them out in just a couple years or so seems crazy.

Not sure the 1950's would be correct. Butmaybe a few came this wayback that far.
Yes., they would be virtually current production back then.
Poland still using SKS or some other weapon vs the AK back then.

OP., does your Polish M44 have any import markings? If it is from the 1950's or from Canada in the 90's it will not have any import marks.
There is a VERY tiny "CDI SWAN VT M44 7.62x54r made in Poland" stamp on the left side receiver at the wood line. Would this help identify about when it was imported?

An importer in the mid to late 1980's and early 90's if I recall correctly. So my memory says. Imported SVT rifles Enfields and Mosin Nagant rifles.

Import mark regulations began with the 1968 Gun Control Act., updated a few times and more recently 2012.

I bought a Polish M44 that looks unissued a year ago at a flea market for 200 bucks. You sure have a nice rifle there. chris
It is the top rifle. The other rifle is a like new 91-59 I bought at the same time.

I bought a beautiful one early last year for $350 at a local shop. It was in immaculate condition, impossible to improve on. So nice in fact that I couldn't bring myself to shoot it so I decided to flip it. I dragged it to a few gun shows and everyone who looked at it drooled over the condition but I couldn't get anyone to crack their wallet at $500. I could have put it up on GB or a forum and held out for more, but ended up selling it for $475.

These days, $400 for an unissued Polish M44 is dirt cheap -- assuming it is all that you say it is. I have one, and I'd laugh in the face of anyone who tried to offer me $400 for it.
Hmm this is good info!
I have had my M44 for over 25 years it was still in cosmoline when I purchased it. Mint, unissued and it has still never been fired, it just sits in my safe and has been kind of forgotten!
I got it thrown in on a trade for some class 3 weapons years ago from an importer in Florida. I don't remember the name though.
I have been trying to find current pricing on all of my firearms as I don't really shoot as much as I use to!
Getting old sucks!
Hopefully these pics show up good!

I have an Polish M44 made in 1953 that I got back in the late 90s
It is new and unfired and was curious what it is worth today
It's been sitting in the Gun Vault for over 20 years now and I want to sell it and wanted pricing info and then I saw all of this
The weapon I have is just as clean as any that have been shown on this post.
Thanks for the heads up!

Same here.
The Poles didn't shoot them they surplused 'em instead. Then we got them over here, and they looked too good to shoot, everybody thinks they are high quality, because they look new. Full disclosure...I haven't shot mine either. Maybe they are barn shooters, if you are broadside to it.

I have one of the Polish Mosin Nagant rifles in excellent to new condition.
No import marks.
I have fired it several times.
It shoots well and is accurate.

The finish and bluing is the best among the post war examples.
Though the Romanian and Hungarian and post war Russian are all nicely finished.

But the Polish unissued to excellent condition is exceptional vs the other types not often found in that condition or beyond very good condition.

I try to keep my eye on the market for these. I’ve seen them go from low $500s to $1200 in the last year or so. That’s just the range I’ve seen. I think $1200 is ridiculous. Give it a few years maybe and then maybe give it a few more but not now. I’d say an average market price on these right now is probably around $700-800. I have 4 “unissued” examples that I got within the last year or so and my range was low $500s to $750. I do my best to find stuff at or below market with lots of patience.
