Obtained this earlier this year and bought the holster from a seller in Ukraine. For years I wanted a Russian example without the ridiculous safety for years and this one came along at a reasonable price. Does anyone else here have one of these imports? If I remember correctly the guy that imported these was a character and ended up in prison.

I have one. I bought directly from them as soon as they landed, and not long after he was picked up by the govt for illegally importing guns. Part of the issue was these TT-33s he imported from Ukraine did not meet the criteria for import (aka no external safety).
The dude was difficult to work with, btw. Super abrasive.

Would that make the gun illegal? It shouldn't since it was imported that way,but it wasn't supposed to be?
Those that made it out were given a pass since it’s not egregious and all the fault was on the importer. And I don’t think enough made it out to be a concern (read: bogus rule not worth enforcing other than on the administrative violation)

I got two of the TG import pistols. 1942 and 1944 Izhevsk. I remember having to hit redial about 20 times before I got anything but a busy signal. I ordered from the owners wife, I believe. I also got another non safety Russian TT33 from SSME out of Plant City FL shortly before that. 1951 Izhevsk. Should have gotten a few more!
