I am trying to help a longtime family friend sell a Model 1861 Springfield rifled musket dated 1862. The short story is that after she saw some of my older firearms (including a Model 1863 model rifled musket made by Colt) she decided she wanted something similar to hang over her fireplace. I agreed to help and below you will find pictures of the rifle that I purchased for her in May 2021 from Morphy Auctions (sale notice with description from Morphy also attached). I recently saw her, and she does not want to keep the rifle. As you can see it has been completely cleaned, and it has been kept in the original box that it was shipped from Morphy. She does not seem very concerned about the money she has in it (over $2K with shipping, etc.). My first inclination is to contact Morphy and see if they will add it to an upcoming auction. What other options would be reasonable? Thanks for your time.

You don't give a location where she lives, but since you mention the possibility of using Morphy's I will assume somewhere in central PA. The Horse Soldier in Gettysburg will sell on commission or buy it outright. I have never sold through them, but it sounds like your friend is more interested in speed rather than profit so I will suggest them as a possibility.

More local to you in Tennessee would be College Hill Arsenal in Nashville, Franklin Relics in Thompson's Station, or Middle Tennessee Relics in Murfreesboro.
