A friend of mine father in law passed and this Rossi revolver was found. I believe it to be a Model 68 made in 1978. The hammer will cock and the cylinder will turn. The problem is the push lever that releases the cylinder seems to be stuck so the cylinder won't drop open to the side. Any ideas on how to fix it?

+1 above. Rossi’s are notorious for the ejector rod backing out. You just need some good needle nose pliers or similar and turn it back in. Should open right up.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I couldn't figure it out so I took it to a local gun shop that had a gunsmith. He took it apart and diagnosed 2 problems. Motor oil had been used in the past to lube the gun and now was sticking up the works. I don't know if this was completely true but the gun has been sitting around for many years.
The second was a bend in the extractor rod. He showed it to me and yes I could see the bend. Maybe someone had tried to force open the cylinder in the past by pulling on it.
Anyways $70 later the gun is cleaned, repaired and back to functioning condition.
