I have a Cimerron (Uberti) Replica of the Winchester Mod. 1876 rifle in 45-60 caliber. The beast is HEAVY but very accurate. If I want to hit anything I'm shooting at beyond 75 yds. I use cross sticks for a steady support. The brass I use to make up ammo for the beast is 45-70 cases trimmed down to 1.81". My accurate loads are 13.5 grains of Trail Boss powder, a .45 cal. wad over the powder, a 300 grain hard cast lead bullet and large rifle primers. Out to 300 yds. that load is real killer and very accurate.
Does anyone else shoot a Mod. 1876 in any calibers made for the rifle ? If so, what are your opinions of the rifle, especially if you shoot 45-60's.

I have uberti 76's in 40 60, 45 60 and 50 95. I shoot black powder in all of them and duplex loads too. They all shoot well.
I like the 40 60 the best, very little recoil and accurate. The 50 95 has noticeable recoil but is fun to shoot silly wets with. I don't often shoot the 45 60. It's a little boring compared to the others, it's pretty much the same as a 45 70..... I'll probably deer hunt this year with the 40 60 or the 50 95.
I have replaced the front sights on all of them to a bead, removed the rear barrel sights and mounted Marbles tang sights. I can actually hit things now.

I though they did an 86 in 50/90. I would be ok with a 50/100, but 50/90 would be easier to load and I somehow though win did some of these in the 86. Should fit if they can and did make the 45/90 fit.
From the Winchester Collector Assn, web site No 50/90. Oh well.

Delete the engraving and you got a pretty good gun here. No crescent, no octagon, not muzzle heavy. What is this, not cool enough? I know Mirukp does not have a clue, but Uberti might get this act together. I might just pay up for a take down, which this was.
No safety.

On elderly friend gifted me a nice original 1876 45-60 as long as I promised to source ammo and let him take a few shots. An old widow had given him the thing 40 years earlier and he had no idea where to find ammo. Old Western Scrounger sold me some from cut down 45-70s.

After several rounds we had no idea of accuracy but were more aware of the smoke and slow recoil. Then the old feller showed me how to clean it. I did not clean the spent brass and after 20 years storage there is now much corrosion (on the spent brass).

The 50-100 and 50-110 cartridges use the same basic case as the Winchester 348. The 50-90 sharps uses a case of 2.5" in length and normally shoots a 600 - 650 grain bullet for an overall length of 3.2"+. The 50-100 fired a 450 grain bullet, while the 50-110 was loaded with a 300 grain bullet. Both had a max overall length 2.75". So a normally loaded 50-90 Sharps cartridge would probably not cycle through an 1886 action. The longest case length for the 86 was 2.4".

I guess the factory 45/90 WCF must be shorter when loaded by Winchester for the 86. Shorter than the corresponding Sharps. That is shorter than 50/90 max spec. I made the assumption if 45/90 WCF can be loaded to fit, then a 50/90 could be loaded in a similar manner. The fact is Winchester never did did that, my assumption was bad. Not the first time. And I keep forgetting stuff, so even if I did know it got flushed long ago.

Good news on the 50/100 brass. Let us hope Uberti gets the idea. Or I hope.
