I've got an old mauser and I'm wanting to relieve some of the wood around the tang to prevent any cracking. It's a husqvarna .30-06 and I know these things are prone to cracking at the tang. Is it as simple as rounding out the rear of the tang outlet a half millimeter, putting the action back in, and then heading out to shoot? What particular tools do you recommend? I am not a handy man and am looking for the simplest way to keep my rifle from getting damaged from use. I look forward to hearing your responses. Thanks!
