Military rifle collecting has really scaled back for me in recent years with prices going up and lack of interesting examples crossing my path. I was pleased to find this M91 at a very small gunshow this past week. One of the better condition m91's I've found in recent years. It seems to be a Balkan century import, scrubbed eagles, no cleaning rod,no pine cone stock mark refurb. 1916 PTG bolt and magazine serial miss match.

Seems like there are mixed opinions on the country of origin ranging from Romania/Yugoslavia/Turkey/Bulgaria. Has anyone ever contacted Century to inquire where they imported them from?

Very nice "Balkan" M-91, love the stock repair. Over the years, I believe several collectors and writers have asked CAI about the origins of these rifles but Century is very tight lipped to this day about any of the details of their imports of small of arms. Which is a shame as I've often thought there's a great book to be written in the who, what, where and how Century acquired the mountains of surplus they did after the fall of the USSR/Warsaw Pact.

Maybe one day a book will be written. The Samuel Cummings book about interarms is worth the read.
We had a forum member who was an overseas buyer for Century Arms and he used to post occasional nuggets of information about his experience scouring the forgotten arms depots and warehouses around the world. Was it Steve C or something like that? From Vermont. Sadly he hasn’t participated here for several years. :(

Many, including myself, tried to convince him that his behind the scenes, firsthand stories about the C&R importation business were invaluable to the collectors‘ community.

I couldn't agree more, so much of what collectors think they know is based on speculation, a few breadcrumbs of fact really can put you in the right direction when researching.

Romania, this was discussed a hundred times already.
