This is a model I am unfamiliar with. I know where there is one for sale at a decent price and in nice condition.
I I'd it as a short rifle by the type of rear sight that is larger then any other Swiss rifles.

I am thinking it over and over and over that maybe I should bring it home.

Is there anything that I should know about these rifles to help make this decision, pro or con?

Very, very rare. The vast majority were converted to K11s. The magazine is NOT like a K11 or G1911, but has a heavy reinforcing rib running down the front, along the center of the bottom and up the rear of the 6 round magazine similar to bottom of the IG1889 magazine, but shorter and without the cutoff lever. The rear sight looks more like an 1897 Cadet rifle, and not like a K11 or G1911. The muzzle and front sight look like a G1811 NOT a K11.

You can see some images at this link. Look at them carefully. https://www.swisswaffen.com/modell-1900-short-rifle/kg00/wyx60a3wvqoe
Also check the Swiss auction prices at the same link, which are up near 5000+ Swiss Francs.

I have only seen one (and in photos only) and it was a restoration. If the photos look like a close match, I would buy.

You will find K11s being sold as K00-11, but that is only to indicate that it was a 1900 Short Rifle action and was converted to a K11. Those are might have a very small premium, especially if it uses the 1900 stock with the original sling swivel inlets on the bottom of the buttstock filled and the K11 sling bar added. Once converted they are K11s.

Well, 700PSS Shooter said almost anything.

Some additions:
K00/11 never had modified Kurzgewehr 00 Stocks. Some old Kurzgewehr 00 stocks have been used to produce Kadettengewehre 97. Some K11 received shortened Infanteriegewehre 11 stocks in the 1920's which have the sling attachement filled with wood:

Beware of fakes! Some are "collector builds" or in German "Sammleranfertigungen". Not the real deal. Transformed back from a K00/11 or even a Kadettengewehr 97.

Some of the rarest "normal" Swiss rifles are:
- Kavalleriekarabiner 05
- Kurzgewehr 00
- Langgewehr 1896 (Army version, not the private version)
Almost ALL of these rifles have been upgrade by Waffenfabrik Bern.

I only saw TWO Kurzgewehr 00 in real and I only saw TWO Kavalleriekarabiner 05 in real. I had the chance to have both of them in my hands. Next time I'm there I will take some better pictures.

Once I was offered a Langgewehr 1896 Army version and I drove straight there, only to find out it was an obvious fake. The seller bought it at an auction and showed me the catalogue where it was listed as an original.
The numbers have been engraved (not stroken), which NEVER happened. The bayonet was a Modell 1899 (number also engraved), but the rifle has been manufactured in 1897.

Have a look at swisswaffen.com for realized prices for these rifles. But read the text; sometimes I also list the collectors builds!

Thank you for the answers. I went back this morning first thing to double check the rifle. Now, we have all heard the stories of getting old and CRS. What I remember seeing yesterday was not what I actually saw. Seems my memory combined images of two separate rifles into one. CRS at it's best. The rifle in question is a nice example of a K11, at $350 I was tempted to bring it home but common sense prevailed.

Now I feel embarrassed.

That is not a bad price on the K11. Remember, with Swiss rifles, you cannot have just one, and N+1 is a good strategy for improving the collection.

Thanks Dan. That is very helpful. I did not realize how close to the Kadet the 1900 rifle was.
