Hello.
I became a proud owner of Mauser Kar98k couple months ago. I went to range with it and to my suprise I noticed that hits were 30 cm's high from bullseye (lets say area of 10-11 o'clock). Shooting distance was 150 meters (air force range). I had heard that mauser military rifles have a habit to shoot a little bit high but I never thought freaking 30 cm's. I managed to hit bullseye couple times but the point of aim was ridiculous. I asked advice from the internet and this "guild" which is focused to historical firearms. Nobody gave me any solid advice."Change ammo type", "lower your aim". 8mm ammo in my country is pretty expensive so I decided to stay on S&B 12,7 gram ammo (price is reasonable and it is close to a wartime ammo). Also some people in internet told me that K98's are zeroed to 200-300 meters but nobody gave any solid source so I can't be sure.
So decided to do something to front sight. Some guy was selling swedish mauser front sight blades and I bought couple (also dovetail). I was not suprise that these blades did not match to the rifle but after some filing it was in place nicely. These blades are pretty high (8-9,5mm) so I might have some succeed. Going to try it next week. Added some pics from the result. No changes were made to the weapon or it's parts.
If this project fails, are there any other options?
