I believe there was at least one long thread on the old boards on this subject. Don't know if anybody brought it over or not.

In Hunt for Red October there was a scene in the Russian sub where they're handing out pistols from a locker, and they all looked like Maks. And I'm sure there were many more.

Makarov's in TV series "Lost"

Jehzsa, is this a site you can update when you see a particular gun used in a movie or show? On the series Lost, 2nd season, the character Desmond shot, and held a Makarov, I'm sure it was a Russian PM ;), to Kate's head keeping Jack at bay in the stand off. I don't know rifles, but it seemed the gun room was stocked with AK's and 1911's as well. :) I will have to get the CD with that episode to look at them again.

One I remember that's not listed there is in "K-19 The Widowmaker", when the crew gets ready to mutiny there's a very clear shot of a Mak being removed from a weapons locker and then a few shots after that.

Hello all. I've seen several Maks in movies. Most of them are just glimpses though. There's a couple of scenes with them in the Movie "Fair Game" with Cindy Crawford and one of the Baldwins. The movie "The Beast" has a scene with one where a Muj leader shoots a fallen comrade. In the same movie the Tank commander actually has what looks like a CZ82. You have to look close though. In "Bat 21" an NVA soldier executes an American with one. There's one in "The World Is not Enough." Bond mentions the "Type 59." Goldeneye also has a few. There are a few more but they've probably been mentioned.

COPS episode I forget what city they were in. But, the police raided a drug house, lifted up a mattress on a bed near a window the drug dealers were using to sell drugs from. And there laid a fully loaded Mak.

"Berlin Tunnel 21"

Another Mak sighting! I saw a movie this morning called "Berlin Tunnel 21". I made my kids sit through it just to see if by chance one would pop up. It was based on a plot to liberate some families from East to West Germany. Finally, in a scene where the actor Richard Thomas, from the TV show "The Walton's", kidnapped a spy from East Germany, I saw a shiny blued East German w\black EG grip. The spy was eventually killed by it. Later I saw another gun, but not a real good look. It had a red Bakelite,(?), grip, but appeared a bit larger than a PM, but I noticed my TV was in 16:9 wide screen which may have distorted it some if it were. The movie was made in 1981. There were lots of Vopo Police mentioned and seen in the film. Thomas was an ex-East German soldier. I saw my East German Volkspolizei hat too. I'm sure it was the exact same hat. :p The kids are sure glad that movie is over, they too feel they have been liberated. ;)

I searched for this but couldn't find if it's been pointed out before. I was watching this movie on HBO the other day called The Island. I guess it came out in 2005 and it remindes me ALOT of an old movie... well.. older than me that is, called Logan's Run. At some point in it a man grabs a small handgun out of a moulded padded case and i saw the destinct shape of a makarov and a star imprint where the grip was. There was also a NAA Guardian i believe in it. Sure enough, a few minutes later in the movie he was waving around a nickel plated Makarov. Since this takes place in the mid 21st century, I can report to you that we might have some home in finding 9x18 for years and years to come... Unless of course it was a .380.

Sorry i cant provide a picture to prove it!

I saw "The Island" last night and it reminded me of "Logans' Run" also. I also saw the Mak. and was surprised about it being in the future. At least in this movies reality of the future private citizens are still able to own guns.

The character Carl from the movie "Munich" uses a Makarov. One of the other characters might as well, but I didn't notice.

Yeah J.L. It made the forums 'movie Mak sightings'. Last season on the weekly show "Lost", a character named "Desmond" held a Mak to the head of another characters, "Jack", head. Lots of others guns, but it was good to see the Mak.

Battlestar Gallactica, Dana Delany's terrorist character is using a makarov...
you can even see writing on it...

Also Die Hard three, the East German badguy "simon" uses a makarov, unfortunately if you slow down the tape you can see its a version which has a bill board on it or is a model 59...

I mean come on... a former EG soldier...a billboard ...I don't think so

Given the number and variety of weapons in Firefly/Serenity, I wouldn't be surprised if there was one in there somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet.

Its been said before but K19 had a weapons locker with several very nice looking maks, anyone notice they were loaded with 5 (6 at the most) rounds?

Spotted one on History channel last night, in the series "Shootout". The Episode is "Afghanistan's deadliest snipers". While a soldier recalls dispatching a certain sniper, he says they found a radio, cell phone, other communication equipment on him... They show a still photo of a pair of Binocs, A handheld radio, some chapstick, and a Makarov with a half full magazine beside it. It was a good quality photo, so I'm not certain if it was a "stock" photo of gear, or the actual items they pulled off this guy.

This is also the episode where a special forces soldier firing from a hill can't figure out how the enemy are targeting his group so quickly.... then he drops his mag and realizes...oh, I have tracers :p.

Not quite cinema, but today (12-dec-07) the BBC did a segment on the Russian closing of British Consulate offices there, ostensibly in retaliation for British expulsion of 3 Russian diplomats over the Litvinenko issue. They showed video of Litvinenko while talking of the implied connection, and the video clip showed Litvinenko with a Makarov emptying two magazines worth in rapid fire at a shooting range.

I'm going to look harder for a range or place to do rapid fire practice. Big as TX is, there should be space for that.

Makarov on TV

Again, not a film, but --- A gal that is a flaming liberal has a comedy/parady show on the Entertainment Cable Channel. I can't recall her name, but she usually has a small person on her show named "Chewy." One evening this week I surfed through and they were doing a parady of training at a shooting range (anti-gun hyperbole). When they went to pick weapons off a table, there was a black gripped IJ-70 on the lower left hand corner of the table. The skit showed them actually fireing a buckmaster type .22, and then "sync" firing, as in like "lip syncing", some larger caliber guns, including shot guns and AR rifles. All, of course, with an anti-gun slant.
