i'm curious what type of oiler/cleaning kits fit in the ww2 garand buttstock traps and what type appears in the post war garands?? there's NO WAY the post war kit(4 rod sections, multi-tool, brush, slotted patch jag and canvas cover) is gonna fit!! the plastic oilers seem to fit ok in both the ww2 and post war, but what is correct???

Just as a matter of interest, I remember reading a post on the CMP Garand forum in which someone asked a veteran infantryman what he used to clean his M1. The answer was that although they had oilers, cleaning rods were only issued one to a squad. When he was in Normandy, he discovered the German K98K cleaning kits with their pull-through steel chain and fixtures and apparently his unit was so impressed that they used them for the remainder of the war...
