And its a Sauer 42 rifle too not a easy rifle too come by either. 1941 and 1942 rifles are hard too come by in matching condition. Those years were hard on these rifles. Anyway your rifle got re-barreled by the depot by the 0,2 marking. And I believe your floorplate got swap out too by them. Show a picture of the butt-plate too sometimes you will find depots rifles with butt-plates that the serial numbers were crossed out or renumbered too match the rifle. Very neat rifle well worth the trade.

It does hurt the value for the collector that wants a factory original rifle but this rifle is not in that category. Depot rebuilds or depot built pieces are not often come across IMO. Sometimes they are mistaken for renumbered fake pieces due too the different sets of fonts, renumbered parts, or mismatched parts. Alot of times the K98k collector can get a great deal on depot piece because they are listed wrong and priced low for what they are. Thats what makes them hard too determine sometimes, you have too know what your looking for. But they are correct for what they are. Depending on what depot or who made them determines value. SS depot built rifles are rare and expensive and Luft depot built rifles are also hard too find and pricey. I think the big reason collectors like depot rifles is it tells a story. The rifle served hard in combat got rebuilt too fight another day. I myself own 5 factory original pieces that are all matching but nothing says unique like a depot combat war horse.

Oh and thanks for showing a picture of the butt-plate. Its what I assumed the old serial number was crossed out and renumbered too match the rifle. Very cool.
