Is there an online resource that shows pictures of the Japanese characters to help with identification of parts? If not, what is the best literature that would have these proof marks and stamps documented for us non-Japanese speakers? Thanks in advance!

I think it depends really on what you are trying to accomplish. The above reference is a good start .

For example here is an excerpt from a Type 99 data sheet showing some of the choices.

If you want to know what arsenal stamps, proofs, etc should be found on a particular series of a particular Type of rifle we can point you to several excellent references.

The same is true for other models.

Why not just buy the books? Both "The Japanese Type 99 Arisaka Rifle" by Don Voigt and "The Type 38 Arisaka" by Francis Allan and Harold W. Macy. Both out line the markings and their meanings and which series you will find which marks. Believe the "The Type 38 Arisaka" is now sold on line in PDF format.

Thank you that's what I need. Not being an Collector, I didn't really know where to go until I came across this message board while I was searching for information about it. But yeah I'm looking to get the book and not knowing really which ones would be most useful for me, I really appreciate the suggestions! If you have any other books or material suggestions that would be great! From what I did find I was pretty sure of what it was and where it came from. Between the serial number and the differences between it and so many of the other Arisaka's I've seen out here. But the little manufacturer's marks got me curious and there's not really a lot of information out there I mean I figured there's got to be more just didn't know where it might be. and some of those little marks I'm looking at might even just be a little scratches or imperfections in the metal. But it's been an education and a lot of fun so thanks for giving me the introduction!

Found those marks all over my gun when you look really close from what I can make out their inspection marks and production marks and they're all over it even on the cleaning rod. I guess I'll have to buy the books then cuz I've been every website I can find and they all say the same thing. Get information here thanks a lot

Some of them probably got sent more than once, sorry about that. But I think I found about 35 or so I have a small reference guy that I got off the internet but I really need to get some books so if you have any that you'd recommend I'd appreciate that! And some of these might just be scratches my eyes are not as good as they once were.
