The OP is asking actual buyers on this forum about their personal experiences. Sounds like he wants to make his own informed opinion based on this forum (which he apparently trusts more than you tube).

Regarding Reps post ..Atlantic is also selling B grade no4mk1 for 399 so that appears to be the new online retail standard. Given what I saw at the show yesterday, nothing in good condition was under 600 and most of those were FTR of some kind or other.

Unfortunately unless you have a great local lgs (which most of us don't), you are shopping online which mostly almost always involved an element of the unknown. Reptile, Simpsons, Edelweiss are reputable sellers with great descriptions and pics....but they may be beyond a beginning collector.

Then again you can go buy a fine condition Navy Arms import for 1k at the lgs I stopped at yesterday....

It's not only opinion. There are dozens of threads here and hundreds on other forums from real buyers complaining about the junk they received. How many examples do people need to be beaten over their head with to realize it's a crap-shoot gamble with the odds stacked against you?

If you don't really care and are willing to accept anything you get, why bother to ask? But if you are concerned enough about getting stuck with a POS to ask, don't say you weren't warned. There is more than enough evidence is out there to know the risk you are taking. If you take it anyway, no sympathy from me.
Just a question...how many purchases have you made from them?

I'm not that stupid.

Something else about RTI that all these newbies may not be aware of is that they are an off-shoot of the infamous Inter Ordnance. Ask an AK guy about them. LOL

If you want to do business with people like that just because it's easy to order online from them, have at it. But don't be surprised when people question your judgment.

While I've never bought a firearm from RTI, I have bought a few other militaria items from them and I was happy with them.

As to INTER-ORDNANCE............back in 2000-2002........they had some really good stuff for sale at good prices (WWII issue PPSH41 and MG42 parts kits for sale/ect) And the only problem I remember them having was that their MG parts kits were not properly CUT, which alerted the ATF. Beyond that, I had never had a problem with them back then either.

I say kudos to OP for actually asking before just buying and saying “how’d I do?” after.

I’ve already expressed my opinion about RTI in this thread. The hype train is real and so as much as we may feel our “bashing” is overkill, I think it’s important since many other sites are full of less-informed, newer/younger collectors who aren’t necessarily so critical in their assessment.

One thing you’ll notice from RTI is that they use the NRA grading scale and label most guns as good or very good meaning the bore is either “shootable” or disregarded for collector firearms (at least that’s the way I read it). I guess that means that it isn’t dangerous to shoot, but that it might have pits in the bore the size of ladybugs, just so long as it’s mechanically sound and looks good on the outside.

I bought one. I sent it back and it was replaced with one I was happy with. It went on for over 2 months but they did make it right. I have considered buying some other stuff but haven't. As some defenders said above, they have some hard t find items. Some prices seem very high to me and others seemed reasonabe to me. If I saw something I had to have and liked the price I woud try another purchase but I'd be a bit more leary.
I might add I heard similar complaints about Hunter's Lodge. I bought from them and it went smoothly. In both cases, I doubt "condition" collectors woud have been happy with what I got from either RTI or Hunters Lodge but I was satisfied.

mnmkeller has me pegged correctly. I have MANY surplus guns. I read RTI's descriptions carefully and with full understanding. I no longer read many opinions online. I never consider opinions passed along from someone else. I DO prefer forums like this. I would say the folks who actually bought from them and have different experiences are the best feedback. I purchased 440 rounds of Italian 30-06 ammo from them. Later I bought a bought a bunch of M1 Carbine ammo from them. Both purchases were easy, as described, and fair prices. I am considering a couple Italian guns now, so I wanted to see what actual buyers had to say. Based on feedback here, I am going to try to purchase a couple. I go into this with eyes open and confident based on feedback here. I want the Italian surplus from Italy, not the ones from Ethiopia. I do appreciate all the input. Thank you.

Didja ever shoot any of the ammo?

Reliable?

No kidding, I am 10 weeks into my first and last purchase from Hunters Lodge. This is has to be the worst service in the world. I assume eventually I will get something?? Never again! As posted already, I placed 2 orders with RTI and the service was excellent. Easy pay, quick ship, always answer the phone and even replaced a broken part at no charge. The guns were junkers but again, as described and as I expected. Wire wheel too. I take RTI over Hunters Lodge. It is special blend of stressful aggravation, I dont need.

I bought a 1870 Vetterli from them when they went on sale for $189, it was dirty but complete, not wire wheeled and the stock was solid, happy with it since I probably will never shoot it but a cool piece of history.
That being said I did read all the negative stuff on RTI but it was short money to be out if it was in bad shape.
May gamble again with the Steyr M95 they are selling for $149.

I paid more than that about 6 mo ago for a cut down 1870. Cleaned to bare metal. I figured it was characteristic Ethiopian gun with AOI branded stock and who ever did the cutting installed a bayonet lug. So I got one. They call it factory cut down? Assuming you got an original 10mm with un molested metal (un cut and un cleaned) for 200 bucks that was very good. Did you call and request that special? This posting tends to get me a little angry. You got a good deal, and I got screwed. Your gun is not 6.5 right?

The Steyr M95 is a very common gun. If you could order an unmolested 1886 original big bore you would have something. For an M95, just buy local. Its nothing.

Right now RTI has Russian Berdan cut-downs of some flavor. I think those are 5 bills ? Or 600 with the rear sight? With the usual bad condition disclaimer description. They are ~10mm guns. That is 3x times the money and well over my throw away limit. I would have my order in now, if they would sell me one like yours. I cannot do it. Just one bad to marginal internet experience after another, and I am not referring to RTI. The whole business stinks!

It depends on what you buy from them. I have bought quite a few different guns and knew what I was getting in to. A B grate 1886 lebel. Bore was fair some medium to heavy pitting on one side of the receiver, missing front sight (only part missing) and an 1890 date. For the price I like it. I bought a P-17 on one of their sales and the bore is really nice and complete. Same goes for my Austrian Styer straight pull. HOWEVER, my B grade Lebel was wire wheeled. They told me they had stopped that practice after that order. I got the P17 and Styer and neither were wheeled. Then I bought and Iraqi SMLE and it was wire wheeled. I called and they agreed to send a stock or exchange it but all the rest they had were wheeled. It had a great bore so I decided to keep it, they gave me a partial refund and all of my hand select money back. Based only on my experience and the fact I knew what I was getting into I have had good experiences. You have to realize these guns are coming out of Africa, they were mistreated for the most part and not properly maintained. Even still I have had good luck.

Another annoyance that is minor in the big picture but still frustrating.

I created an account and made some non-firearm minor purchases. Knew what I was getting and was satisfied. But then marketing emails started showing up multiple times a day and it kept getting worse. I finally counted 16 or 18 in a 24 hour period and emailed their customer service asking wtf. Response was if you don't like it unsubscribe.

I unsubscribed.

Emails didn't stop.
