A family just sent a 7mm RemMag rifle down for a young hunter to use. It has "Flaigs" as well as "7m/m Rem Mag" stamped on the upper left side of the barrel. When I took the stock off, the action says "Belgium" and on the barrel "Premium". So, after a bit of research, I found that Flaig had a shop in PA and made custom rifles. The rifle does not have sights but is tapped for scope mounts. Anyone have an idea of what scope mounts would work with this rifle. I see that most pictures show Weaver style, but since the rear mount has an approx. 1/2" spacing, I couldn't find any that might work. Is this a FN 98 action?

Rather than try to tap this rifle again its easier to drill a scope mount base to fit. Blank Weaver style bases are readily available for a large number of rifles and probably the standard 98 Mauser contour will fit. Mark and drill on a drill press with the proper size bit for the screws. If you run into problems with the contour they can be ground to fit and flat base stock is also available.
