I have wanted to make a trip out to one of their stores since I was a kid. Never had the opportunity. I will likely be going next month. I heard the south store is the better one for selection. I am not really looking for anything specific. I just want to fill my yearly quota. Any tips that you can share or places to see / visit while there that you would recommend?

The CMP Talladega ⎌store opens 1100 on Wednesday, start there. Could have up to 30 folks waiting in line at the SS. Arrive early. There should be several regulars like PH68 - Tom, who kindly offer assistance in selecting rifles. Have your order forms ready. I always stay at the Fairfield Marriott in Oxford. Read the store reports on the CMP forum.

Bring donuts and coffee for staff. Seriously the above is excellent advice. In recent years the Camp Perry store is ho hum. You have to be in the right place at right time. Usually pretty picked over and slim pickens. Go to Alabama and try the range make the most of it.

Be prepared to be disappointed. The CMP offerings lately are the stuff that would’ve been parted out back in 2000 for being pitted and cobbled together.

I made a trip to the north store a couple years ago in March. Very cold and windy there. I was the only one on the entire Camp Perry property except for three employees in the store. Racks were full and I had plenty of time and all of the attention and help from both experts at the desk. I'm glad I brought extra money because I paid cash for two fantastic Garands. No regrets. Too bad to hear of all of the troubles people have had mentioned above. Timing is important, I guess. Good luck!

the nationals are going in now (Bullseye week is ending, high power\service rifle starts soon) so some product is being diverted,

+1, 2 or whatever to checking CMP forums on what is available and were,
