This one is offered at auction by a large auction company in September, can you spot why it is a fake?

Damn shame since it was a nice commercial Fascist pistol to begin with.

Thats a bummer. It was a well marked and in great condition 1940 built Beretta. It is a shame that there is even those Nazi stamps out there.

Also if I'm not mistaken if it was a Nazi pistol WaA162 should be the correct marking. Do you have a photo of the other side? I wonder if it has the Gustav Genschow German import marking?

No photo of the other side ..... It would be a horrible shame if it was GECO marked for sure !!!!!!!!!!

And yes the correct acceptance would be WaA162. WaA76 is for a CZ pistol.

In addition the Germans/RSI didn't take control of Beretta until September of 1943 !!!

David & Mark:

Not to shift direction away from the damage caused by these fake stamp morons, but what is the latest information concerning the commercial marked Berettas? I have heard that they were simply made for end-users such as bank guards, municipal policemen and the civilians who were allowed to own a pistol in wartime Italy. Is the explanation that simple?

Dave,

The serial number is 449430.

They also have a correct WaA162 marked gun serial number 568197 which is a clone of my pistol 572362 in terms of how the marking is applied. I've illustrated the two markings below.

Here is the discription from the catalog for the fake gun and they are looking to get $1,100-$1,600.00.

A number of these pistols were built and used by the German army during the occupation of Italy in World War II. Some of these pistols, such as this one, were marked with the German acceptance stamp. The left rear of the frame is marked with the Italian Gardone proof over the Italian "crown / P.S.F." proof over "1940". Behind the markings is the German "eagle / WaA76" proof and the German eagle firing proof, marked on the left upper front of the trigger guard. The left side of the slide is marked "P BERETTA - CAL. 7.65 - BREVETTATA / GARDONE V.T. 1940 - XVIII". The right side of the slide and frame are marked with the serial number. Fitted with black textured grips with "PB" monogram at the bottoms. Complete with an unmarked green leather flap holster and extra magazine

It seems odd that they have a real WaA marked Beretta and a fake one and they are promoting them the same.

Well the best thing is that it has been spotted and those that read this have learned from it. Thanks Mark for pointing it out.

Richard, The commercial Berettas are for non-Italian military use. They were sold to Italian gun dealers, German gun dealers (like Geco & Akah), other countries, Finland & Romania, etc. They aren't Italian Military inspected.

Mark, Thanks for the additional data. That WaA162 really is a clone to yours.

I may have to bid on it but I got mine for less than $1,300
(this year) and I think that correct gun will have a higher value because it is a more well known company.

Crap it may go for 3k? and is correct ... a damn shame, the fake gun will sell for $1,500, in my opinion, by someone who has no clue!

I think the auction company who may be reviewing this thread should change their description of the gun on their site ...

My 2c .... the auction companies have members on this forum and others who review prices and discriptions of guns for sure. ... and look at our posts ...

Why is that gun listed $1,000 less than the original and correct pistol ?? ... Auction guys ... get more Honest!

My "soapbox" for you auction guys who are members and trolls. .......

Mark

P.S. Sorry but I needed to get that out ... folks are watching even if they are "members" who do not contribute.
