Found this little revolver a while ago while cleaning up .
5 shot with Belgian proofs. As far as I can tell it is in 9.4mm Dutch Revolver caliber. Looks like it had a safety catch at one time which is missing. Serial # is on all major parts including the grips.
Has a hole in butt for a lanyard ring which is missing.
Any one have an idea if this is a revolver used by Netherlands Police or other officials ?

Dear Sir,

This type of revolver in caliber 9,4mm from various makers was indeed used by various Dutch officials like the Amsterdam municipal police (usual delivered by Alard Fils and also delivered and marked on the bridge “Je Maintiendrai” and Joh. Munts - the weaponshandler) – the Dutch customs (usual marked on the bridge D.v.F.) – the Dutch rural police the Rijksveldwacht (usual marked RV or RVW). Most of these users have also markings on the cilinder like an arrow or number 1 and 2 or LP (Losse Patroon / blank). Amsterdam used about 1.750, the customs more then 1.500 and the RVW about 1.500. Various other municipal police forces, local defence forces or Dutch and Dutch East Indies governement agencies used this type of revolver, mostly known under the common name of “Rijksveldwachtrevolver”. These were also sold secondhand from one agencie to another agencie, like from the D.v.F. to the prisonservices and to the forest services in the Dutch East Indies.
The marking A in triangle is the mark of Alard Fils & Cie. of Maastricht, a dutch weaponshandler who sold to Dutch local and governement agencies.

The revolver is missing a safety/side bar (on the left) which is bloccing the movement of the cilinder by gripping the front of the chamber.

Regards,

Marck

Dear Sir,

The Rijksveldwachtrevolver as used for police (first load) and marked on the cilinder LP, was intended to have as first round a blank cartridge. The revolver for the DvF and numbered on the cilinder number 1 and 2 where according their instruction to be loaded with a shot cartridge (see the article). Every municipal police force or other agencies like the Dutch postal service could make their own choice.

regards,

Marck
