I have not had my 92S out and looked at it for a while now..I cannot remember when it might have been made..I thought at one time I had it figured to the early 80s..Anyway how to date it for sure?..I tried entering it in the Beretta Serial lookup..Nothing came up..The serial number is, if anything, a cool one.. Y00123Z ..I appreciate it..I think they were made from around 78 to 82..And the Letters in the serial number may have some significance? Maybe this was the 123rd one made..

I have the original Plastic grips. Just like the wood better on there..

It is one of the nicest condition 92S Police Trade ins I have encountered..Apart from that stupid Import mark..Thanks

I have one just like that, same importer same mark. They have a date code like this. In the square box, "BZ" (if I am reading my own photo correctly) 2005 does not sound right. But, this is about your gun not mine. I kinda dont care.

I do see you have a PW Arms serial number and Beretta serial. That must be more recent than mine. I only have the Beretta serial. X.....Z

You can find the Italian date codes on the web. here is something I found with Google

Edit: I deleted the chart because of errors pointed out in post #7. And is it obviously useless to date the 92s.

I think by my date code if that is true, mine has not even been made yet,LOL I think alot of those date codes may not apply to Italian made versions..Only Beretta USA made Beretta's..Reason I care is I like to keep info on all my Berettas for mine and my kids info when I am gone..This is the only Beretta in my collection I cannot come up with a year made..

I found this with Google and it confirms the dates 92s production 1978 to 82. My BZ is way out. I though I knew something.

They said this about the 92s. which I find hard to believe:

92S: 1978-1982, European Police Trade-In, proof mark absent. Date range cannot be narrowed to specific year.
I dont believe it. How can they not know!

sorry but the chart with the proof house data codes you show is partialy wrong:

- the years from 1945 to 1954 were expressed with the plain year and not with the numbers from 1 to 10;
Image

- starting from 1954 not always the year was expressed by code,
Image

- what is written at the foot of the page is fantasy: the proof house was established on 1923 and the year was espressed with plain numeral, not strange combinations:

Please don't trust on every thing you read.

Based on Kanister's info, I am going to delete the date code chart. I dont want to leave bad information on the board. Perhaps he would care to post a correct chart, but; from what I read it wont help date the 92s.

It is only a 4 year production run. That should be close enough for government work.

I found that with a Google search. I did a screen capture and re-posted here. I got careless. I should have credited the source. Not really something I could easily modify. And I am not sure I should. I will 'assume' there are
good sources of info available and leave it at that. Thank you again for posting the correction.

Well I do somewhat, but that does not tell you anything as far if it was first year production or whatever..I thought all the serial numbers ended with a Y on the 92S series..Does the Y indicate a particuliar year of production?

Well I received another letter from Beretta on my 92s this time...You have to take some of it and realize everything to them is a O/U shotgun.LOL That is a normal response..Anyway they have the made on year with an error too..Of course it was not made in 1968..Typo I am sure..I am sure it is 1978 and shipped in 1978.

It may very well have been the 123rd one made in 1978 though..I have a question what does the "Revised and banked by BNP" refer too exactly..I collect Beretta and have never seen that reference before..Thanks

I have a older 92 Beretta . The rear sight is missing and have had no luck finding a replacement .I have contacted Beretta with no results . It is my favorite and want to make it whole.
Is there a different slide that will accommodate newer sights/ optics ?
Any advice is welcome
