We were gone on vacation for about 10 days. Day after we got back, I went down to check the collection and that white fuzzy mold crap was all over some stuff! I had multiple Enfields and Mausers with it. Leather field gear and even some binos.

Does anyone have a way to treat/prevent this crap from happening? This is a basement, no windows but 2 8''x16'' vents. The don't flow enough air but that's what I have.

Thanks for any input.

Well, I do know people in the past talked of using vinegar on paper towel and wiping leather gear, seemed to work for me, but I'd have to re test that method. I do know mold loves to feed on pecards leather grease dressing, so like if someone lives or stores things in a damp environment then mold has to be killed off. I guess the ph acid level left behind by vinegar, or even a watered down vinegar solution keeps mold at bay. I did see a post war p38 holster I wiped down fifteen years ago start to get that white stuff, but it could be grease or oils turning white in the usual way, likely some mold a happening after all this time. I'm gonna vinegar wipe that down, that is for sure.
