A couple more.

 

The blade has had a yellow chromate coating applied for corrosion protection.

Need to see more close-up photos of the rifle. Especially all of the stamped serials, and the crossbolt stamps on the stock,

 

the rifle once lost its original bolt carrier, someone in the US replaced it with a Russian bolt carrier and tried to force match the serial, did a stupid and ugly job.

Thanks guys,yeah too bad about the bolt.Bought for a shooter,its a good looking rifle.Will never know who numbered the bolt carrier,I could have dont a much better job!Maybe I should buff it off and redo it.Could it have been done in the field?

Very doubtful the bolt was done during Soviet maintenance.

EP serials done during re-arsenal NEVER look like that. A bolt replacement done by soviet armorer would scrub the original serial then EP very legibly in same area as original stamped serial.

Yours was done by bubba. It will be easy to buff out. Which i recommend.

 

Thanks Boris appreciate it.I have seen Russian rifles with number crossed out and penned right number but never like that,bolt parts are matching and correct.It is what it is didnt pay near what a non messed with one like this would bring.Stock is original to rifle not renumbered.Any estimate of value ,shoot it?was it rearsenalled?It dosent look it by the stock and finish,so not the normal arsenal redo.Hate to buff it off and find out it was done in the field,more research first!

 

It wasn't done in the field by any Russian armorer. Buff that ugly out. The damage is done. It's taken a big collector hit with the bolt. Shoot away, still $500-$600 bucks of Russian steel. Nice rig otherwise, PAX
