I dont see how a crack would occur there, its not a place that takes stress and if it were dropped the back of the safety would be hit first. If it has original parts or even if its a refurb that price is very reasonable. You may be looking at deep scratches.

That pistol has a very original finish look to it with a properly blue barrel. I have one very much like it. Good luck on getting that one.

It looks more like a scratch from poor tool control with disassembly. I would pay $1,000 for that nice 1911. (Offer $800 due to this "imperfection"!) Good luck.

Sometimes haggling loses you a deal, know when to pay asking price. My gut says, this is a time to get the deal done and pay his asking.

Don't try to smooth out the scratches. I agree with it being the original finish, as the temper line on the slide is prominent.

Do buy the gun quickly. If you confirm the serial number matches under the firing pin stop, the gun is worth twice the asking price, even with the buggering.

Why is this even a debate? Pay the $1k. It is a great deal. Sometimes losing is winning.

 

I was just abit concerned about the appearance of a very small crack. There is no question the price is more than right.

I was looking at the picture where the safety lever pin comes through. I know the picture is upside down, about the 10
o clock position it looked like a small jagged crack a few millimeters long next to the pin and going outwards

 

$1000 is a steal. I sold a 42' WB proofed colt for $3800 a couple years ago.

Looks like a steel punch slipped and scratched the frame in two directions

 

I'll get better photos tomorrow. I picked up the entire grouping. The veteran was on the USS Dade as well as the USS Catskill. Son said his dad was issued the pistol while in the navy. The photos made it look much worse than it is. I guess I was kinda overthinking this. It's numbers match so that's a good thing.

 

This was the deal of the year.

 

Now we want more pictures.

 

It looks like someone didn't know how to remove the safety and tried to pound it out
with a hammer. It's buggered up from the hammer blows. Not really a problem unless
it screwed something up on the inside from the pounding.
I'd still grab it for that price.

It does match. Guy said his father never fired it during his time in the navy but they did after.
