I got a few rounds of this. It does not have any head stamp. 30 Luger or 8mm Nambu or what? That's a 45 from WW2 on the right.

Probably 8mm Nambu, the Japanese often didn't put headstamps on their cartridges. Do you have a 30cal. projectile to compare it against? That should show the larger 8mm diameter. I'm sure other more knowledgeable people will come along with a more definitive answer.

Definitely Nambu...

A quick check against a 9MM cartridge or empty case will show that the Nambu case is both longer and has a slightly larger head (and body) diameter.

While I agree that just a little investigation will give an answer, I too am often to lazy to go find out for myself. The up side is we get a good discussion, and great comments. I learn stuff on this board every day. While there might be a grinch or two ( who has not gotten tired of something here - my personal one is "how long will my NFA transfer take" ) the people here are great, knowledgeable and willing to share info.

Interesting thread. I recently picked up a couple loose rounds that had me scratching my head for a second or two. They have no headstamps, but are clearly .30 Luger. The stamp on the primers is a bit of a giveaway, but I still wonder what the history is with them.

Here they are, the two in the middle. There are two Luger rounds on the one side and two Nambu rounds on the other (commercial and military).

One thing I find interesting to note is the huge difference in the size of extractor grooves. The W-W .30 Luger groove is cavernous compared to the others, especially the tiny little groove on the military Nambu round.

Oh,,,, this site would still exist.

And people would know how to answer their own questions too.

I an not old,,, but I am Pre-Algore's Internet.

I should have asked the internet why an old chainsaw suddenly started making a weird "ragged" ratty noise and then died and refused to restart 3 weeks ago.
Instead I got out a wrench, a screwdriver, used my eyeballs, ID'd the piston/cylinder seizure, and then canned the whole works as not feasable to fix.
The latter took only 15 minutes.

I have SAAMI and CIP specification sheets downloaded so I can view them offline, I have at least 20 loading data manuals, hard books, plus all the freely downloadable .pdf's and offline-saved webpages I can find, so I can do research without asking The Internet at large (doesn't help that a lot of the internet is In Error).

I like to be Self Sufficient, stubborn that way I suppose, getting worse as I get older it seems.
When I need a hand,,, there usually isn't anyone around available to give me one, so better figure it out myself.

Merry Christmas to you as well, and everyone else too. :)

3 more days of w**k, then a week of holiday, then 10 days or so of Deer Hunting (beats the heck out of being at w**k). Woo HOOO!!!
