USGI M14 Magazines vs new milspec M1A Magazines

USGI M14 Magazines vs new milspec M1A Magazines. Between the two which are better? The USGI magazines are 3x more expensive, are they really worth that much more from a functioning standpoint?

they were made long time ago..the new ones made by checkmate are used by the US gov for the current use of M14 in the sandbox...checkmate also makes them for springfield armory

There are a lot of counterfeit "real GI" M14 magazines out there.
If you are merely shooting, I'd go for the current production Checkmates.

I have seven checkmates. They work fabulously, load easily, and have not failed us in our M1A Loaded. The construction feels extremely durable.

I got one of the "counterfeit" M14 magazines and one could really tell. It didn't lock correctly and wouldn't stay locked in rifle, many FTF and jams. I was lucky to sell it for $5 to a person who was building a dummy M14 rifle.

I have quite a few of each and have no problems with functionality either way. For competition I use 10 CMI mags that are all identical and bought from 44mag.com rather than my GI mags that have taken a lot of different paths to get to me.

The GI mags are pretty much guaranteed to work. I hate shelling out the cash for them though. A lot of the after market ones are total crap! some won't fit and others won't work with a full mag. Thanks for the heads up on the Checkmate mags.
