Very nice JP1.

I wonder now if there’ll be other companies doing similar... although it’s not a new thing to sell military returns. Remember the CZ P07’s (I think) from Mexico ?

I was gone for a few weeks and didn't get to pick up my M17 until a couple of days ago.

TF001685:

Information received from a Sig employee says that approximately 3500 of these pistols were released for civilian sales. Serial numbers reported so far on the Facebook Surplus M17 group, range from TF00010 up through the TF005844

Box contains one M17 pistol with one 17 round magazine, two 21 rounders and various bits of literature including the Certificate of Authenticity and an extra recoil spring and the gun lock (not pictured):

The magazines are brand new. Some have been shipped with used magazines with various unit and/or other identifying numbers/letters.

Slide markings are unique to military issued M17's with the manufacturer code and part number:

Same code and numbers on the barrel:

Grip has a rack number marked in Sharpie "GUN1". Information from a member on the Facebook group said that this was most likely issued to a M240B gunner.

us government items probably not so much. The last I know was the usmc m45a1's colt had. Now foreign stuff ( I missed the cz's). Yes The closest was when the Italian government sold all of the 92s models and 1951's a few years back. A lot of the 92s's had been back to Beretta for an overhaul and are proofed at time of rework. I believe the 92s I got was proofed in 06 with fs mod and fresh parked finish.

Very nice M17s. You fellows shoot these at all? I put a box of 124gn FMJ through one and it shot pretty good. I didn't think I would like the trigger much but it kind of grew on me after a couple of mags.

Oh for sure

People are talking on the FB group about not even opening the box because of whatever... I shoot mine. And will. My only concern is the tape on the grip it came with - not that I’m concerned about a piece of tape adding value, it’s the uniqueness of it

Very few people will want a gun still wrapped up. For all they know it’s a a fake and there’s a brick in there. You’d have to include an X-ray to prove a gun is inside. Condition is where the money is. Not a piece of unbroken tape. It’s an odd thought to me to not show the gun.

I’ve got a mint unfired one. Still has the grease inside. Barrel w no ring at the end. That will be worth more than a unbroken piece of tape on a box

Mint Unfired one... from this group?? As in the decommissioned M17s

I saw some being sold as unopened with no pictures of the gun itself. I can see how someone might think it may be worth more down the road but its not for me. I want to see what I'm buying, hold it and shoot it. One of my pet peeves with online sellers is limited or poor photos of what their selling.

One thing I noticed when the Colt USMC M45s sold was a tendency, at least early on, for the used ones to sell for more than the new in the box guns.

If I found what I thought was an unfired M17 I would buy it; but only so I had a set; new and used. If I could only buy one and had to choose between unfired or one that was issued and carryed. I would buy the issued one.

I plan on shooting my M17 once in a while; same as my USMC M45 and Remington Rand 1911A1.

What a lot of guys are not thinking about is what if it had low round count and not cleaned internally? What will be the condition internally in 10 years? Rust? Stainless will corrode as preventative as it is. My 4473 which as low wear (look at pics I posted before cleaning) as it only had limited mags put through it before it went back to sig. It was not cleaned internally. My 1046 is as nice condition wise and it was cleaned after its few mags it had. it was full of clp. So for preservation clean them or verifiy period. Yes unfired pistols are showing up in this lot from sig.
So

The appeal of these guns is that they were used, and issued, to the military. The beat up ones are the ones with more character, because they have a history. Mine’s been pretty beat up, scratched up, and has lots of holster wear, so not in the least bit afraid to fire it a little more. Based on the barrel wear, I’d guess more than 1500 rounds through this one, yet it still shoots one ragged hole - took it to the range today and fired it alongside a 1911 and M9 (I posted pictures in a separate thread), and despite the wear and tear, it shot the best of the three
