A local seller wants $450 or equivalent trade value for one of these. Condition is Excellent (close to Mint, he claims) and comes with a bayonet. Fair price or a bit high?

I admit i got a sweet deal, but i picked up a unissued/matching BO two weeks ago for $318 with 300rds of yugo ammo at a gun show. No bayonet included. Its not mint as it has some dings in the stock and a few scuffs and scratches in the blueing. I would guess most of the slight damage is from storage/handling. I think that price is a little high but if its really minty it may be worth it. It may pay to wait and see if something better comes along.

I've seen many many "Mint" descriptions made by people who dont know mint from a whole in the ground..Mitchells sold quite a few pimp shined M48BO rifles..They do renumber the bolts on many as well as the usual shiny buttplate and poor refinish that results in what I call "Mitchlls Seep"..where the cozmo leeches out of all the end grain like the sling cutout and makes ugly dark stains..At $450 it would have to be a Truly mint "Yugo" example with pencil remaining on the butt...The BO is actually one of the highest production models, so not rare..the $450 price indicates a Mitchells reaming possibly as well

Ask him what the import mark is if its an MMC it likely has no real collector value..although some did go through with only the pimp shined buttplate..Also ask if the letter prefix is on the bolt stem ahead of the serial..if its an MMC import with no letter prefix on stem its been renumbered

I would Describe/rate this rifle at 85% W/great bore..Certainly not mint..searched for pics of my safe queen W/ pencil but couldnt find it

I personally at $450 wouldn't touch it! Literally I wouldn't even pick it up and hold it

Pass and wait. You can find as good or better for less and not a long search either. Standard M48s are averaging $260-$300 so $450 is way over-priced. (so saith my .02) For the record, I have over paid for things before too but this is common enough not to justify it.
