this has probably been discussed before but was is the signifigance of the "x" under the slide release on an e.g. mak?

Post Unification Police use. IIRC, the unified German govt. X'd them on export.

From what I've read elsewhere Landespolizei Sachsen-Anhalt. This would translate to "Police force Saxonia-Anhalt" where Saxonia-Anhalt would be the district or state.

thanks again for the info.
i picked it up today.
pistol with one mag. but i cant complain about the price. 222.55 out the door.
cant wait to get out and shoot it.

That's a great price. What year is it? Not too many of the X'ed-out LSAs. I got my '64 in 1996 for $169 before I knew anything about Makarovs.

just checked it is a 1964. ser no. starts with "ET".
