Have come across some WW II uniforms. Anyone an expert on here on those? I will post pictures if I get some response. Thanks

Here is a link to pictures. Had trouble uploading directly so hopefully this works. Please assist with identification and value of these if you will. Thanks.

The U.S. helmet is a Model 1917, from WWI. I see you asked on the German militaria forum before you got the stuff. I suggest you try there again not only for the flag, but on the helmets. The German M42, if everything is kosher, is pushing $1,000 retail from what I've seen, but those folks would know better than I. They might be able to help on the Italian M33, too. Nice bunch of stuff.

One 39 or 42 US tunic? is questionable, has Marine patch on 1 side and Army Service Command? on the other? Khaki shirt has post war SHAEF patch(blue instead of black background) Where did they come from?

Regardless of where the Mdl 39( pleated, vented back, all brass buttons & belt hooks) or Mdl 42(no pleat, vent and zinc & brass buttons) US Army tunic came from one would not have a US Marine Corps patch on 1 side and a US Army Service Command patch on the other, looks to be "made up". Check fleabay for the "going rate".

Not sure which one you are referring to there are 2 Tunics in the pictures and 1 Ike jacket. The Guadal Canal patch Tunic is a full uniform-shirt, pants, hat from a local deceased vet that I have a brief military history on. Is that the one you are referring to?

That's the one he means. Guadalcanal patch in this case is a 2nd Marine Division patch. What's the guy's history?

Do you have his DD-214? Without that document and other supporting paper work / orders and pics its questionable. Uniform "builders" are everywhere, why one needs to buy reference books.

Information on the owner of the uniform in question.........Inducted in May 1941 in the 164th Infantry stationed in Claibourne, LA. March 1942, he left Seatle WA on the President Coolidge Ocean Liner. After a month at sea arrived at Melbourne, Austrailian. He served with the Anti-tank Company in the Guadalcanal and Bougainville Islands in the South Pacific until his return in October 1944. He then served with the Military Police in Texarkana until his discharge in May 1945. This as accounted by his wife.. So now guys what do you think about the validity of the patches on his uniform??

Keep a written record of that history with it. It would be better if you had his actual service records. After reading about the 164th Infantry Regiment, it could theoretically be possible that they were assigned to a Marine division while on Guadalcanal & were authorized to wear that patch. It would be hard to say without some documentation that that happened. Given that history, I wouldn't take any of the patches off.

I found this thread on another forum: http://http://www.gruntsmilitary.com/board/showthread.php?p=34361
with this statement:
'The Americal was authorized to wear the 1st Marine "Guadalcanal" Patch on their right shoulders.
According to Marine Les Groshong, who posts to Grunts, the 164th was known as the "Little Marines" or "the 164th Marines", a sign of great respect from the 1st Marine Division. Chesty Puller is credited with the comment, "Those farm boys can fight".'
The only problem being that the patch on your tunic is an early 2nd Marine Division patch, which looks very similar to the 1st Marine Division patch. Certainly makes it seem more legitimate, though.

Thanks tplan, I am 100% certain it is legitimate. These good ND farmboys and thier wives would take this seriously and would not lie about thier service or play games with thier uniforms. They were too silently proud of it to do that. I will never sell this uniform anyway. It is a great memento of ND farm boys outstanding service during WW II, one of whom is my father.

Wow, with info like this looks to be good, pretty rare uniform. The widow? should have the DD-214 or if he's a local it should be on file at the local court house. Will take some serious research, but worth it. Logic would say his collar disks should be MP and enlisted mans(crossed flintlock pistols and a US).
Did the other field gear come from him?

And it won't be called a DD-214 unless he got a copy of his service records after 1950. It was a War Department Adjutant General's form before that, although I don't know the complete title.

Correct about the form name, but who in the court house would know what the War Dept.AGO form 100 was?
IIRC the form was changed in July 44 and so noted on the bottom in fine print. "Separation Qualification Record" was printed on the top of the form below the Great Seal and United States Army.
The patch could be a post war add on and the error in 2nd Marine Div and the 1st Marine Div is easy to understand as they both had "Guadalcanal on them, the 2nd has the "snake shaped" 2 .The 2nd type 2nd Marine Div patch is larger and a different shape.

63H2O raises a good point, I was given a jump suit by a WWII vet, it was his jump suit, but it is a post war studio mad one, how can that be it I got it directly from the vet? The answer is really simple, he and his buddies were extras on the filming of the movie "The Longest Day" and he told me that he liberated three of them from the costume department when they finished the movie. He added the patches to the uniform, and they are not all original.
Best
Gus
